“Pinkie, maybe you should lethim breath.” I try to warn her.

“You grope us when you can without being noticed.” She yells louder as the man struggles.

“And let the customers treat us like sluts just because it helps your business.” She yells in his face while the man struggles more, turning all shades of purple.

“Pinkie?” I interrupt her again, and this time she turns to me with a very angry look.

“What? Don’t you see I am busy?” She yells at me, but I ignore it.

“Nova, I don’t think he is listening anymore.”

I say calmly as I remove her hand from him. The man falls to the ground without her pressure to hold him up. I kneel over him, bringing two fingers to the side of his neck.

I wait for any signs of life. And wait some more. And he is dead. Not that this is any shock;the man was turning blue around the middle of Nova’s speech of injustice in the workplace.

“So, good news, he won’t be mistreating any of his employees anymore.” I say with an awkward laugh.

“Bad news, he is kind of dead.” I add.

She does not look amused. I wonder why my way of delivering the news was so damn creative. She presses the same spot I did moments before, waiting for any sign of life. When clearly there is no sign of life, she turns back to me.

“This man was a coward.” I say, looking at him and then back to her.

“It looks more like you killed him on purpose, so maybe we should leave.”

She doesn’t react, so I reach for her hand and pull her out of the coffee shop. I check the corners as we walk toward thedoor for cameras. It looks like we are lucky for once tonight, as this shithole has no security.

I drag a very confused Nova all the way to her car, open her door, and force her inside. She blinks in disbelief, as if she just realizes what happened.

“What about him?” She questions.

“They will probably think that he choked on a donut.” I reply with hesitation.

A lot of customers saw us enter the place, but I think with a good lawyer we can get out of this situation.

“But people saw us, and my DNA is surely all over him right now.” The wheels in her beautiful head turn as she is trying to piece together all the ways we can get caught for this.

“He was a jerk who mistreated his employees. We can argue that your DNA was on him because he forced you to be close to him.”

She seems confused, but then it looks like she understands what I am implying. She nods and starts her car. The engine purrs with that sweet sound I love, breaking the silence.

“So what’s next?” She asks.

“Well, we can’t get into more trouble. So, how about we visit that boyfriend of yours?”

I look at her with a grin, and she snaps out of her delusion, composing herself as she fixes her hair before she replies.

“See you there, lover boy.” She shuts her door, and before I know it, I am watching the car speed away.

I rush to my own car to follow her. I hit the button for the call on my phone as I enter the car, and it connects with the Bluetoothright as I start the engine to follow her. As I pull out onto the road, adrenaline courses through me. Masking any fear and doubt in my heart.

“You better keep up!” Nova’s voice fills the car from the speaker, and I can’t help but chuckle.

The thought of racing to wherever she's headed fills me with excitement. I have always been a thrill-seeker, chasing the next adventure, and in her, it seems like I have found my perfect match. She chases the thrill as much as I do.

The engine roars to life as I press the accelerator, eager to match her pace. Each twist of the road feels like an invitation, a promise of the adrenaline that awaits.

"Where are we headed this time, Pinkie?" I shout back to her through the phone.
