Hale pushes open his bedroom door, and I almost drool at the sight of his flexing muscles.

His room is neat with only a few personal touches. Boxes are still stacked in the corner, his bed and desk appearing to be the only things properly unpacked, the latter covered in computer equipment, stacks of mail, and what looks like account sheets. Strange things for a delivery guy, but maybe there’s more to his job than I’m aware of.

Hale’s computer starts pinging incessantly, window upon window popping up with new email alerts.

“Sorry.” He turns off the monitor without even looking. “Work can wait.”

“If you need to work?—”

“Victoria.” He uses a no-nonsense tone. “You’re my priority right now. I know we’ve just met, but you’re safe with me. I’m going to look after you.”

He sounds so sincere that I almost believe him. However, hearing him use my fake name jars me back to reality, eventhough him using it is probably a good thing. Knowing my real identity would cause more trouble.

Behind us, Ezra hovers in the doorway.

“Aren’t you coming in?” I ask him. I can’t help preening at the erection pressing through his pants.

“You’ll be safe with Hale.”

Hale’s head jerks back, seeming equally surprised. “You’re not staying?

“She’s a student.” Ezra runs a hand through his locs in exasperation. “Now that I know that… I can’t.”

I narrow my eyes. “That didn’t stop you in the greenhouse.”

“That was different. You needed relief and help.” He avoids my gaze. “You have Hale now. I’ve done my part.”

Tears spring to my eyes, but I blink them away before they can see. This heat is making me lose all my logic. I should be grateful that Ezra has some sense, no matter how good being fucked by two alphas at once sounds.

“How long do your heats usually last, beautiful?” Hale asks.

“Um…” Him calling me beautiful has completely thrown me off. “A few days, but I don’t think this one will last too long because of the heat patch.”

My nails dig into my palms as I curl my fists, not wanting to show how much discomfort I’m in. If someone doesn’t make me come soon, I’ll explode. Despite my impressive control, a girl only has so much restraint.

“If you’re not staying, can you make sure we have plenty of food?” Hale asks Ezra. “We’ll need to keep Victoria well fueled.”

“You really don’t have to do that.”

“Yes,” Hale insists. “We do.”

“Consider it done.” Ezra turns to leave. “Enjoy yourself, Hale. She tastes delicious.”

Despite the sting of his warranted rejection, my cheeks warm at his compliment as he pads away, leaving me and Hale alone.

This is the least Kady-like thing I’ve ever done—after fucking Ezra in the first place. Why has my caution been replaced by reckless abandon lately?

Hale’s woody scent wraps around my limbs like a warm blanket, quietening my worries. “Does it hurt, little fighter?”

“Little fighter?”

“You have a mean right hook from what I’ve heard.” He looks down at me. “And you’re short.”

“I’m tall for an omega.”

“Well, you’re short to me.” His voice trails off, noticing me wince. “Are you in pain?”

I bite my lip. “A little.”
