“Raven, Darlin’. Look at me. What happened?”
A small sniffle and the aroma of vetiver enters my system.
“Knox?”
I finally register his hands cradling my face. Blinking the tears obscuring my vision, Knox’s face comes into view. His brows are deeply furrowed.
Another sniffle. Bergamot and sea salt.
“Griffin?”
“I’m right here, Sunshine.”
Arms envelop my upper body, and I realize I’m sitting on someone’s lap.
“Baby, what happened?” Knox asks again.
How do I answer that? I’m not even sure of what happened. But I know why. I know what I need to do.
Shaking my head to clear the fog, I move to stand back up, but Griffin just tightens his hold. “Absolutely not. You’re staying right here until we make sure that you’re okay.”
“I’m fine,” I insist.
“I would beg to differ,” Knox argues and makes a pointed look at my knees. A quick glance down, and I find blood dripping down my legs.
Whoops.
“Let’s get her back inside and make sure she doesn’t need to go to the hospital,” Knox directs.
“No!” I refuse a bit more firmly than the situation warrants. “I mean, no. No hospitals, please. I’ll be fine.”
They both give a look of suspicion.
Knox narrows his eyes slightly. “We’ll see.” It’s neither a yes nor a no, but I’ll take it.
Griffin adjusts me in his arms and smoothly rises to his feet.
I startle at the way he does it so effortlessly. “Whoa, hey! I can walk.”
“I told you before, Raven. Don’t be a brat,” he growls.
Sweet Baby Jesus. His grumbly demeanor should negate the shiver that zips down my spine and shoots straight for my core. I was practically catatonic not five minutes ago, and all these two have to do is breathe and my pussy is ready to party.
Something is seriously wrong with me.
CHAPTER TWENTY
KNOX
Idon’t know what the hell just happened. One minute, I’m ordering more inventory, and the next, I’m running outside with Griffin. Raven’s scream had the hair on my arms standing on end. I’ll never forget it as long as I live.
“This is ridiculous,” Raven complains.
I’ve seen Griffin carry many people, and not one of them has ever complained.
“How unfortunate for you,” I quip.
The glare Raven shoots my direction does little to intimidate me. It’s more adorable than anything else.
