“And don’t forget a know-it-all,” the bald man added, then turned to address Cal. “I’m sorry, I don’t think you know our other staff member. This is Dr. Sanri, and she’s anxious to get started on your brother’s therapy.”

“Is that so?” Juston asked, his arms crossed over his chest.

Sanri. The name sounds familiar. Where have I heard it before?

“Oh yes,” the female purred. “Very. But first, I think I’ll just peek in on our patient here.”

Cal thought about blocking the door, but the look on Grimm’s face said he’d like for him to try it.

“I’ll just walk my brother to his room,” he said, putting an arm around Juston and turning him in the direction of the red ward.

“You do that, and then see yourself out. It’s almost dinner time. All visitors have to leave.”

“Of course,” Cal said over his shoulder. He had no intention of actually departing, but he didn’t want Grimm to catch a whiff of his plan.

“Sanri,” he muttered, racking his brain. “That name has a familiar ring to it.”

Juston shrugged. “Not to me.”

“It has something to do with Nojan and Mayra and…” They were almost back to the red ward when he realized who the name belonged to.

“Fuck,” he muttered and almost ran back to Gemma’s room.

Juston grabbed him, pulling him into his room and slamming the door. “What is it?”

“Sanri. She’s the Seeker who pulled Nojan and Mayra into hallucinations. It almost got them both killed!”

“And now she’s here? ‘Fuck’ is right.”

Cal wanted to run back to Gemmaline, to fight off the Seeker, but he knew that would blow what little cover they had and could put them all in danger. Besides, he knew he was no match for the bitch. It had taken an intervention from the Goddess of Light to pull Nojan and Mayra out of her grip.

He had to trust that Gemma would be all right until he could get to her again. And since visiting hours were almost over, they needed a plan to make sure he could remain undetected long enough to unlock the powers inside of her.

Goddess of Light, if you can hear me, please keep her safe. Help her to hold on a little longer, just until I can figure out what to do.

Although Cal had never relied on anyone but himself, this time he would have to go on faith.

Sanri the Seeker had come to RPS to wreak havoc on them all. The lady of illusions in a loony bin. May the gods help them now!
