Dawn rolled her eyes. “A little pleasure goes a long way.” She’d been holed up in the lab for too long. For the last half year, she’d been in a relationship in which the sex was about as exciting as doing her taxes. Why not let herself have a good time with no strings attached? Then she could come back and settle into her work, tension relieved, stupid ex-boyfriend forgotten.
“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men, huh?”
“I don’t remember programming you to play devil’s advocate all the time, Ladee.”
The robot shrugged, arms out and palms up. “I prefer to be called the voice of reason.”
“And you’re telling me to head to the Double V? Won’t it offend your modest sensibilities?”
“I prefer to turn a blind eye to your more human predilections,” Ladee responded with a sniff. “But you could go and blow off a little steam. Before you smash something valuable.”
Dawn laughed. Ladee was right. She’d been a little on edge lately. Okay, so it’d been the equivalent to hanging off the side of the Olympus Mons, the highest peak in the Sol system. Blowing off some steam sounded good. But the Double V?
“I’ll be the designated driver,” Ladee said. “And I’ll make sure you get home safe.”
“Sold,” Dawn said, deciding not to overthink this one thing in her life. “Just let me get changed.”
