But she was also the main source for all the blanks in my memory. I didn’t think about her, but I also didn’t want to ever forget about the things I had suffered at her grubby hands.

Vivian Kimber.

Rain’s sister.

My biological aunt.

And, for a very long time, I had thought her to be my biological mother.

In her own right she was a whack job and should have been locked up.

Rain would want in on this storage unit. This would be huge to him. And he was going to be pissed when he found out Quinton kept this from him.

I could tell by the tightness around his eyes and mouth that offering this to me was going to cost him dearly. Rain would be very unhappy with him but he was willing to risk it for me.

Boy, but I loved me some Quinton Alexander.

I had no idea what the woman had had worth saving but I was more than eager to get my hands on it so I could dig through it.

There was also a very large part of me that wanted to go through it before my dad did so that I could potentially save him from anything that could hurt him. And wasn’t that a tall order.

He deserved a little bit of protection now that he’d found his coven and his happy place in the world.

“You gotta talk to me, baby,” Quinton murmured as if we were the only two people in the room. “I need to know that this is what you want and I’m making the right decision here for you. I can’t give you your real mother back and only Rain can answer questions about her. What I can do is fill in as many of the holes about the fake one as I can get my hands on. It’s better than nothing and you deserve to know.”

I loved that Quinton put me first always. My dad did it too but he still wasn’t ready for me to take the reigns of my life just yet. Quinton usually wasn’t either but here we were taking baby steps in the right direction.

“I can be ready to go whenever,” I told him eagerly as I scootched to the edge of my chair. “It’ll take me fifteen minutes to pack, tops.”

“Good,” he murmured. “You’ll be leaving in the morning with Trenton and Simon. They’re gonna drive your SUV. That way you should have plenty of room to pack up and bring back anything that you might find that you want to keep. I’ll get you guys all booked up in your hotel that you’ll stay at while you’re there and you can head out in the morning. I’m not going to tell the others where you’re going because they’ll all just try and follow you. Let’s keep this between just us for now, please.”

Was Quinton Alexander sitting across his desk from me in his office and asking me instead of telling me to do something? Just what in the hell was happening around here?

I was a little taken aback that he wasn’t demanding one of the guys tag along with us. Either he really trusted the brothers at this point or he felt the threat toward our coven had been entirely wiped away.

I was willing to go with the first one because the second option would never be a reality.

“You guys want to pack tonight and head out in the morning?”

Both brothers dipped their head in response before leaving Quinton’s office. Neither one of them bothered to say a word to me.

And why would they? If I were them I wouldn’t exactly want to talk to me either.

They had both been open with their feelings toward me and I had put them both on ice and never went back.

I couldn’t keep avoiding the situation forever in hopes it’d just quietly disappear. Life didn’t work that way no matter how hard I hoped it to. And I had already tried hoping really freaking hard. Things never worked out the easy way.

“You need to work that out,” Quinton bossed me as soon as they were gone.

It happened less and less these days but my cheeks flushed.

I was not about to take relationship advice from my bossy dick of a husband. Something about it just didn’t seem right to me.

“Fuck off, Uncle Quinton,” I snapped as I climbed out of the chair and stood up.

“You’re sleeping with me tonight, wife,” he called after me as I stormed out of his office.

I’d sleep in my own damn bed and if he wanted me then he could come get in there with me. The selfish dick didn’t like sharing though and always kicked everyone else out of my bed the moment he got in it.
