Her Whole Entire World

Ariel

Fuzzy hadn’t been a lie.

Everything was blurry as I sunk further and deeper into my mind.

The memories came at me fast, one right after the other, and I was lost to them.

A beautiful but blurry woman filled my mind and my heart.

She held my hand.

She hugged me.

She had the most beautiful laugh I’d ever heard in my whole entire life. It was a twinkling sound, like water gently rolling over a wind chime.

She was love and light and I’d been her whole entire world.

Memory after memory hit me. Filling my heart and shredding it to pieces all at the same time.

Now I got why Rain used to always look like he was mostly dead. A corpse walking around with a heart that still beat on occasion.

When you lost something so beautiful, so absolutely precious, it permanently destroyed a piece of you.

My mind rebelled at the memories while my heart attempted to bleed out on me.

It was too much and gone far too fast.

But it would remain with me for the rest of my days.

And it was well worth the price it cost me to take that nameless man’s life just to have it, fuzzy or not.

Not Going Anywhere

Simon

Ariel’s body jerked and I knew she’d finally come back to us. She’d been out for just over an hour and even though I knew she was technically alright I’d still been starting to worry about her.

Ariel sobbed and the sound tore through me as if it were my heart breaking and not hers.

“Shh, baby,” Trenton murmured. “We’ve got you. We’re not ever letting go. You’re going to be just fine.”

I was glad Trenton had words for her because I was too choked up by her raw emotions to try and soothe her with words right now.

“She was be… beau… beautiful.” she sobbed. “And she loved me.”

“Of course she loved you,” Trenton whispered as he kissed her forehead. “She was your mother and you’re the easiest person to love that I’ve ever met. And if she looked anything likeyou she’d have to have been beautiful. You let it out if you need to, we’re not going anywhere. I promise.”

She cried for hours until, finally exhausted, she fell asleep.

I was surprised and slightly worried by the fact that Rain hadn’t so much as attempted to check on her during her that whole time.

It didn’t seem like a Rain thing to do at all.
