“Jah—.”
“It’s cool,” I cut her off. “I love you enough to let your ass go, baby. You don’t have to keep explaining to me. Your mind is made up.”
With that, she got out of the car and got in her car. She sat there for a minute. I didn’t want to pull off without knowing she was safe. Seeing her sitting in her car crying was only making things worse for me. I started my car and left her at her studio.
“You sure you’re okay?”Lonni asked as she helped put my shirt on.
I had an emergency scare, and she had me rushed to the hospital. What I thought were minor heart palpitations was a small heart attack. Now I had to walk around for two weeks with a heart monitor on.
“I’m good, Lonni. You don’t have to treat me like a baby. It was a minor heart attack. I’m good.”
“Bring the attitude down. Don’t take your frustrations out on me. You haven’t talked to that girl in three months. Let the shit go already. It’s making you sick,” she fussed.
“I’m sorry. Didn’t mean to take it out on you. I don’t want you treating me like I’m handicapped. I’m capable of still doing all the things I used to do.”
“No, I got the twins until this shit comes off your chest and the doctor gives you the results. That means stay away from my house until then. Go home and rest, Jah.”
“I can’t be away from the twins that long, Lonni. They keep me going.”
“Jah, go home and rest. That’s final. I know you’re the oldest, but I’m only doing what I know mama would’ve wanted. If you’re not well, the twins will pick up on it. Do you want them to see you weak like this?”
“Nah,” I said, defeated.
“Well, there you have it. I will have them Facetime you on their iPads. Other than that, we’ll see you in two weeks.”
Lonni dropped me off at home, and shit only got worse. All Tatiyonna shit that was here was still in the same spot. I had been staying over at Lonni’s to avoid the feeling of Tatiyonna’s presence in my house. I took a shower and fixed something to eat. After I ate, I got in bed to prevent my chest from hurting. As I laid there, my chest started getting tight. I gathered my shit and went into the guest room. I searched some furniture stores so I could get a new bed ordered.
It would take two weeks for it to be delivered, which was perfect. I would be able to put it together without the doctor monitoring my damn heart. I don’t know what made me do it, but I went to the photo album and went through the pictures and videos of Tatiyonna and me. She was happy. At least I thought she was. I wondered how her last three months had been since being back with that nigga. I watched one of our sex videos she recorded on my phone while we were in Thailand. It left a sour taste in my mouth, being that’s where she got pregnant. Just to think, a few months from now, I would’ve been a dad. She would’ve been showing and wobbling around.
All this was in my past, and I needed to move on like my sister said. Tatiyonna was living her life and it was time torelease her from my memories so I could heal. I closed our pictures, put my phone on the charger and tried to force sleep. It didn’t come easy, but when it did, it felt amazing not to be in a hospital bed. The next morning, I was up and ready to check on the job site that we had been working on for months. I hadn't seen Tatiyonna’s husband in a while. We would be in emails together, but that was it.
I pulled up to my office first to see if I had missed anything while I was in the hospital. My assistant had handled everything so far and responded to all emails for me. Usually, when she appeared in my office with a tight ass dress on, I would either be hitting her from the back or letting her suck my dick. I wasn’t in the mood for either. She just didn’t do it for me anymore. The lack of connection that we had made me realize I was wasting time with her. I couldn’t keep giving dick out to her and there was no end goal in mind. Thanks to Tatiyonna’s ass for making me feel this way.
An hour later, I was pulling up to the site. We were about to do a ribbon-cutting, but there were still a few permits that needed to be approved. After that, we had a few spots to lay concrete, and we could move out of the way so they could finish up. The first face I saw was Kileen. The nigga was always so eager to talk to me. He didn’t know how to read the room. Granted, I hadn't talked to the nigga since Tatiyonna told me it was him she was married to.
“Hey, man, I was just asking your assistant where you were. I hadn't seen you in forever,” he dapped me.
All I could see when I dapped him up was me eating Tatiyonna’s pussy from the back while she wore this nigga ring.
“Nah, I have other sites that I see about. I have managers who handle things very well, so I can move around freely. Remember this business is older than you,” I stated.
“I forgot, it was passed down.”
“Yes, I was passed a multi-million-dollar business that I’ve doubled the profit on. Anymore jabs because I got a few that will cave your chest in. How you want to play today?” I glared at him.
He was so green he had no clue how freaky his wife was. I’m sure I was the only one that could bring that shit out of her.
“Why are you always so hostile? I thought we had gotten over that stage. We’re just two black brothers trying to make it in this industry.”
“Nah, I’ve been in this industry since a kid. Everyone in the state knows who Jahmir Grant is. Can you say the same?”
As he was about to respond, he got a call on his walkie-talkie that he had a visitor up front.
“Let me go handle this. I’ll see you around,” he said.
“Yeah, go handle that, nigga.” I mugged him as he walked off.
