“It’s unusual for a woman to take over this kind of organization.” She quirks an eyebrow.
“Yeah, times are changing, no?”
“Mm-hm. You wouldn’t have anything to do with that decision, would you?”
I forced their hand. “Of course not, but I’m curious how you found out about who got named when I just found out.”
“A friend told me.”
I smile. “Nice friend.” Likely the same one who butchered her brother. Damn, female assassins are the worst. They take that shit to heart and make an art of it.
I snatch my wife’s wrist, pull her closer, and kiss the top of her hand. “I love you, you know?”
“I love you too.” She smiles, and my entire world lights up. Keeping my wife happy keeps my world happy, and happy is a good feeling, one I welcome after many years of a lonely and bittersweet life. It’s good to be married. It really is.
