If he’s not feeling that yet, all I can do is wait for him to catch up.

He will.

Once he can see how he fits here.

That’s probably in Lana’s role, so he’s not going to feel it while he’s out here installing a fence with me. I doubt he’ll feel it when he’s in Robin’s suite, either.

I don’t know if he even realizes how adrift he’s been.

He let go of his own plans while I was figuring out my path.

That wasn’t something I noticed when it was happening, but I can see it now, clear as day.

He’s too smart to do nothing with the rest of his life.

He needs to be doing something important.

This is it.

Goldcrest Academy is exactly where we need to be.

The world is starting to change all around us, and we can help that change continue and grow. We can be here to protect Omegas from those who would harm them.

I can’t think of a better purpose to have.

I step back once the final panel of the metal barrier is secured.

Shayne is already taking his gloves off.

He’s ready to catch up on the sleep he was deprived of this morning.

I don’t blame him. It’s been a long day.

And I don’t think it’s over quite yet.

“Okay, let’s go,” I tell him, motioning to the remaining panels leaning against one of the trees.

“Shit,” he mutters as he puts his gloves back on. “I forgot about those.”

There are three left, and I have the nuts and bolts for them in my pocket.

“We wouldn’t have to carry them as far if we put them up here.”

He groans as he looks at the space. “You’re serious.”

I shrug. “We could leave them out here, but we’d have to come back for them if they turn out to be spare panels.”

He sighs. “Fine. How much longer can three stupid panels really take.”

“I’m sure Robin will appreciate it. If this gets finished tonight, she’ll get to walk in the gardens tomorrow.”

“She does seem to really like that.”

“She does,” I agree.

“Okay. Let’s get on with this. I want to be back before everyone’s asleep tonight.”
