It’s going to hurt, but I can handle it.

I’m sure Robin will be ready to claim us as her mates soon, and at that point there isn’t much this woman can do to keep us apart.

“When do you expect to be back?” Lana asks, as she takes the book back and closes it.

“You mean after today?”

She nods, her gaze steady as she waits for my reply.

“I’ll have to ask Robin when she wants to meet Shayne. It’s up to her.”

That earns me a hint of a smile. “Okay. Good. I’ll ask her after you leave. It’ll be up to Robin to decide when she sees you and your other pack members.”

“Sounds good to me.”

She puts the book down. “Was that all?”

“What happens when Robin decides she wants to be claimed?”

Her expression darkens again, and she’s quiet for long enough that I almost regret asking the question. Then she clears her throat and looks right at me.

“There will be no marking or claiming until Robin comes to me and asks for you and your pack mates to become her mates. You can control yourselves until you have the official paperwork from the academy. As long as Robin is here, she’s under my guardianship. That means you do things the right way. Understood?”

“Of course.”

She nods. “Good. Have a nice lunch. Come back here to sign out after. Owen can walk you off site, to make sure you don’t … get lost.”

“Great. Thanks,” I mutter, before I turn to leave.

“You’re welcome.” She gives me a tight smile when I glance back at her.

Yeah. This woman doesn’t trust me one little bit.

It’s almost as if she knows I’m an asshole.

Looks like I’ll have to deal with barely seeing Robin for how ever long it takes for her to decide she’s ready to be mated to my pack.

First, she’ll need to meet everyone.

It’s not going to happen overnight.

Patience is going to have to be my new best friend.

Sighing, I open the door, putting a smile on my face just for Robin.

Everything else can happen as it happens.

Today, I get to spend time with my beautiful new mate.

Chapter Fifty-One

Robin

Falcon is probably only in Lana’s office for a few minutes, but it feels like forever to be standing in the hallway waiting around, wondering why he had to shut me out of the room to speak to her.

Owen starts out leaning back against the wall by the side of the door, head to the side as if he’s trying to listen in to whatever they’re talking about in there.

I take a seat on the bench across from the door after a few seconds.
