He placed a kiss on my forehead. “We can go back to my place. Can your people keep Reign tonight?”
“Naya is actually here. Let me go inside to get some things. I’ll get Reign situated as well. Give me a few minutes,” I responded.
“I’ll be right here whenever you’re ready,” he said as he released me from our embrace.
It was hard to pull away from him. I knew the faster I got Reign settled, the sooner I would be back in the comfort of Micah’s embrace.
“What took you so long to put the Jeep away?” Naya asked as soon as I walked into the house.
“Micah pulled up just as I came out of the shed. I forgot I was supposed to go to his house after my meeting with John earlier,” I replied.
“Oh, so when he didn’t hear from you, he pulled up on you. I know that’s right, Micah,” Naya teased.
“Don’t start with me. Can you put Reign to bed for me?” I asked.
“Go be with your man, girl. I’ll put baby girl to bed then head out,” she confirmed.
“Thanks, girl. Let me go tell her good night,” I said as we walked up to Reign’s bedroom.
Reign was busy picking out her pajamas when we walked into her room.
“I’m ready for my bath,” she said.
“Nugget, Auntie Naya is going to give you your bath tonight. Mommy is going out for a little,” I explained.
“I get to play with Auntie Naya. Yay!” she screamed in excitement.
“Not too much playing. Don’t forget your bedtime. I love you. I’ll see you in the morning,” I said as I hugged and kissed her.
“Love you, Mommy,” she replied as she hugged and kissed me back.
“Love you too, Nugget.”
I letNana and PopPop know I was heading out, then I made my way back outside to Micah with my overnight bag. He leaned against the passenger side of the truck, waiting for me. Micah smiled as he watched me walk toward him. Before opening the door, he bent down to kiss my lips. After a series of kisses, he opened the door for me. Once I was inside the truck, he got into the driver’s seat, and Micah passed me his phone.
“Play whatever you want,” he offered.
I turned on a station that played old-school R&B. As he drove, he held my hand with the music filling the silence in the car. The windows were down, with the wind blowing through my hair. After the day I had, I wouldn’t mind riding around all nightjust like that. Every so often, Micah would peek over at me while he drove. Everything about that man gave me all the feels.
Twenty minutes later, we pulled up in front of Micah’s place. He parked, and we both got out. Micah grabbed my bag out of the truck bed. When we reached the front door, he unlocked it.
“Where is Violet?” I asked.
“With her mother. We alternate every other day. There’s no set schedule, so we try to work around each other’s schedules. So, it’s me and you tonight,” Micah replied as he placed my bag down.
I took a seat on the couch, and he joined me.
“Do you want anything to drink?” he asked.
“I’ll take a shot of whiskey,” I replied.
He looked at me, surprised by my response. “A shot of whiskey coming right up,” he said with a smile.
Micah went over to the bar cart and filled two shot glasses. His pour was heavy, but I wasn’t complaining. Micah passed me the shot. We clinked our glasses, then downed our drinks.
“Damn, that was smooth,” I said as the whiskey elevated my temperature as it coursed through my body.
“Do you want to talk about what happened today?” he inquired.
