Romantic Escape

Bentley

I don’t knowwhat I would have done if Zah hadn’t heard me out. I did nothing wrong to lose her and I would have been devastated. Lifting her hand to my lips, I kiss the back of it as I drive us to the surprise I have set up for us.

I was able to book an extra night for the cabin I had rented for our date tomorrow, since she lives in the dorms and I live in a frat house. I thought she might like having the privacy of the cabin for us to spend the night.

I also thought it would be romantic. There’s no doubt we need the alone time. The sexual tension in this car has my pants so tight I might burst through them.

I can’t wait to get there so she can see what all I’ve been working on all day. I did as much as I could on short notice. Tomorrow night is the big night.

“Are you hungry?” I ask.

“A little. I couldn’t really stand to eat on the plane,” she says softly.

“Babe, I want you to talk to me if you ever doubt me again. I have nothing to hide and I’m not going to lie to you. I could have put your mind at ease last night.”

“And if you couldn’t, I wouldn’t have been able to focus.”

I think her words over. My head would have been fucked if I had a game tonight. I would have had to do all I could to block my personal life out to get my job done. As an athlete, I get it.

“Fair enough. I can understand that. I’m sorry you had to go through this.

“I told Pacey I wasn’t interested and that I had a girlfriend. That should have been the end of things. I had no idea they were plotting to pull some bullshit.”

The car falls silent, causing me to glance from the road to Zah. She’s staring at me with a shocked expression on her face. I give her hand a gentle squeeze.

“What?”

“You have a girlfriend?”

“Yeah, I do. I want everyone to know you’re mine and I’m not interested in anyone else. We need to tell everyone back home. Especially Erica.”

Zahirah groans. “I can’t believe she called you.”

“She wanted to have your back. If you were seeing some other guy and he hurt you, I would have kicked his ass. You’re important to us. You always will be. You have to know that. You’re as good as a Coswell in our eyes.”

I lift her hand to kiss it again as I come to the turn for our exit. I get excited as I pull onto the road to our cabin. I already have the key, so we can head right there.

“Where are we?”

“You’re about to find out in just a second.”

I park and hop out to round the car and open her door. She gets out with a smile on her face. I grab her backpack, small duffel, and teddy bear from the back seat, then lace our fingers together as we move for the front door of the cabin.

Unlocking the door, I let her in first and move in behind her. Placing her things down, I step behind her to wrap my arms around her waist. I nuzzle her neck and inhale.

“I’m so happy to have you in my arms. You want to eat first and then I can show you around? Or do you want to take the tour and eat after?”

Her stomach growls, answering for her. I laugh and lead her to the kitchen, where I have our dinner for the night. I can’t cook for shit, but I know how to order and heat things up.

Tonight, I have some Chinese food I ordered. I pop it in the warmer and go to set the table, lighting the candle I placed there earlier.

When I look into Zah’s face, my heart pangs. Her eyes are still a bit red and swollen. A reminder that because of me, she was hurt. I wish I never had anything to do with Carly.

I lean in and kiss her lips. She cups my face, causing me to deepen the kiss. I’m devouring her, for I don’t know how long, when the timer chimes, signaling our food is ready.

I reluctantly break away to get our food so she can eat something. As we sit to eat by candlelight, I get some music going. Her face is now lit up with a smile.
