Nico and Teilo, until Ben had rescued them from near death, experienced only death and that of a cage, trapped in their animal form. Their mate connection was used against them time and time again to gain their compliance. Terror their daily life until Ben.

Yes, mate of mine, you are right. But I sense his greed and need for recognition have blinded him to the truth. It’s possibly why whoever sent him here left him to fend for himself. To test him.

Being able to communicate with a mate in this way was a definite perk. Then he failed! And they were stupid not to figure out what he was up to before making him vulnerable. This Devil, how the fuck has he generated such fear in idiots like this?

Beaumont’s chuckle was all in his head. His mate kept his stance, mouth open, steely eyes watchful, not looking in any way amused. These men are expendable to him. I understand this. Alligators see everything as prey and nothing more.

“How often do they meet at the bar? And at what time?” Kylo was back to questioning the guy, distracting Duron from what his mate had said when the guy now seemed unable to shut up.

Duron wasn’t convinced that all the guy said would pan out. Regardless, he could see the brothers paid close attention.

When the guy appeared to have run out of steam, his face gleaming with sweat, his T-shirt soaked to match his jeans, Kylo dropped him to the floor, standing. He rubbed his hand down the thigh of his khaki pants, then indicated to Nori and Felix. “Put him in the back of my police car. I’ll take him in and charge him.”

“What!” The wailing voice was back, and Duron resisted rubbing at his ears as his animals complained. “They’ll kill me if you put me in jail!”

Kylo scratched at his bristly jaw, his eyes narrowing on the guy Nori and Felix hoisted to standing, an arm each under the sweaty pits of the guy, holding him. “Is there any room in the cellar?”

Felix shrugged. “Why ask me? I only got home yesterday.”

“A little. The cage is free, and the wards will keep him safe.” The way Nori said it, the implication was that the dude was anything but safe.

Kylo nodded. “Do that. Make sure there’s enough food and water for a few days.” With that, Kylo dismissed the other man like he no longer was of any concern. His attention on Mao. “Do you think you’ll be able to identify where the explosives came from?”

Interested in how Mao would do that, Duron followed behind Mao as he slung low and explored the ground where the bomb must have detonated. One hiss from the cat, and Duron put a little more space between them.

When Nori and Felix disappeared, Wyatt spoke to Kylo. “What are you hoping to achieve with Mao?”

“Mao is a munitions and explosives expert. If there is a signature to the material used that Mao has encountered before, then he’ll find it.” Pride was there as he watched his brother sniff through the devastation.

“Cool.” Wyatt, like Duron, stepped closer and got the same hiss.

They’d never worked with an explosives expert before. They used their animal forms, and sometimes weapons, they’d trained with.

Duron, with so many animal forms, had no need for other weapons.

When Mao finished, the cat became man and stared at them with a simmering anger that crackled in the sultry summer air. “This is military grade. Whoever left the bomb in the guy’s apartment got the makings for it from Ejército Paraguayo.”

At Duron’s and Wyatt’s blank expressions, he added, “The ground force branch of the Armed Forces of Paraguay. They’ve taken the fucking mission statement to strengthen civil-military relations to a whole fucking new level,” he spat out angrily, turning on his heel, seemingly uncaring of the rubble under the soles of his feet as he marched back into the house.

“Yiptedofuckingdar,” Kylo grunted and went after his brother.

Duron glanced at Wyatt, frowning. “Don’t look at me. I don’t know what it means, either.”

Beaumont’s large body nudged Duron’s right leg, reminding him of the ache, before his large body swayed majestically back towards the house.Let’s see what the plan of attack is.

Watching his mate heading back inside, Duron’s thoughts didn’t automatically go to plans of attack, unless that involved him and Beaumont attacking each other’s naked bodies.

Did a mate bond trigger raging hormones?

The large tail flicked in a way that made Duron’s thighs want to squeeze together, his cock pulsing with renewed vigor.

Let’s hope so,his mate purred sexily, not sounding anything like the enormous, scary beast in front of him.Patience, mate of mine. I’m looking forward to finding out exactly what you are capable of! Only let’s save that for when there aren’t any threats interrupting us.

Duron worked hard to keep his thoughts on that to himself. With two heads doing the thinking, it was going to behardto see which one would win!
