Elizabeth kept the rest of them moving.
“We’ll meet you in there. Look for the table with the annoyed President and Director of the FBI. I may or may not have skipped filing my paperwork after the last case. My bad,” she said, laughing.
Oh, that would annoy Axelle to no end.
“We’ll be right in,” Ethan offered.
As they left them there, slipping into the room where all their guests were quietly waiting, Ethan faced Gene.
“You know I love you, right?” he asked.
Gene lifted a brow.
“No conversation in the history of relationships went well after that sentence. What’s going on? You’re edgy, and the family is overcompensating for it. I’m not an idiot. I can feel the energy. The vibe is way off.”
Yeah, no shock.
“I need you to tell me that you trust me no matter what, and that you won’t get angry with me.”
Uh-oh.
He didn’t like this.
The last time something like this went down, Ethan had dropped that they weren’t going back with the family, and he’d had to tell Elizabeth.
Glancing over, Raphael was trying to be invisible, and failing miserably.
“Of course, I trust you, and unless you’re going to tell me we’re not going to be a couple anymore, you’re probably good.”
Well, thank God for that.
“Then, I have to show you something,” he said, moving to the door with his hand still in Gene’s.
As he opened it, and pulled the man in, the lights in the room went on, and Gene came face-to-face with a room full of people, a walkway of rose petals, and their whole family.
Plus friends.
And he blinked.
“What is this?” Gene asked.
When he turned, Ethan let go of his hand, went down on one knee, and stared up at him.
“Will you marry me here in front of our family, friends, and children?” he asked. “Will you forever be part of our world, and never leave my side?”
Gene was caught off guard, and not in a bad way.
He just never expected this.
Holy.
Shit.
Ethan tended to be lowkey, and this wasANYTHINGbut lowkey.
This was high-key, if that was a thing.
“I know we said we’d get married at the new house, but I wanted everyone in our world to be part of it, as I tell the universe that you’re the last part of my heart. Now, we’re complete, and for the rest of my life, you’ll be mine.”
