Chris went there.

“Do you want the new information, or would you like the old information that I happened to find?” he asked.

Elizabeth moved closer to him, and he looked tired. In fact, he looked exhausted, and she didn’t like that.

“I’m going to take the old information, then the new information, and you’re going to be clocking out. You’re on dog duty,” she said, pointing at Shadow, who was over by Tony, getting scratches. “Because the dog can’t stay in the morgue. There’s far too many bones on Tony’s table, and he looks suspicious.”

Tony gasped.

“Is that why he came over here?”

She rolled her eyes.

“No, Tony. He’s over there because nuts like to hang out together. Of course, it’s the table of remains that are all bones. He’s a dog. If you turn away, something is going missing, and then, you’re losing your mind.”

Tony eyed up the dog suspiciously.

It amused her.

Chris was, honestly, good with checking out. He was tired, and he could use a nap. He had a feeling that this was going to escalate after last night. Yes, he caught a short nap around two that morning, but two hours vertically on a crap-couch in a small room was not bed with his family.

He missed Callen’s snoring, and Elizabeth’s cuddling.

“Well, then, let me say this. I went back through the police database regarding old cases and cold cases. Well, I say I did, but it was MATE. Who am I kidding?”

She didn’t care who did it.

As long as it got done.

“And what did you find?” she asked.

Chris got MATE to pull it up on his tablet.

“Show the lady,” he said, and the tablet began projecting a hologram for Elizabeth to see.

Alexi was right there, and he was watching in fascination.

“Oh, that’s cool,” he said.

Chris glanced over.

“Yeah, it’s one of the best systems out there, and MATE is exclusively ours to use at the FBI. I’ll show you more later.”

When MATE appeared, hearing her name, she put herself between Chris and Alexi, and Elizabeth warned her.

“Don’t,” she said.

It was clear that MATE was worried about Chris, and she didn’t blame her, but the last thing she wanted was information getting out about the man in the morgue.

That was a private conversation.

“Yes, Mother.”

MATE still stuck close to Chris, like she could stop a person rushing him.

She.

Could.
