It hadn’t even been a difficult case since he’d left a printed-out note at home on his computer.

Then, there was the woman who’d OD’d behind the local gathering place on the outskirts ofHolladayas she played Meth roulette with a loaded syringe.

She’d worked them all, and she’d closed most of them, but what wouldn’t she give to have a juicy case?

An accidental death, or a suicide, wasn’t going to make her career.

Not.

At.

All.

Give her something juicy that she could sink her teeth into, along with her partner, and she’d be a happy, happy girl.

Like now, she was on her way to another homicide, and once more, she was being boned by the boss. She felt sorry for her male partner, who was being taken along on this pathetic ride.

He deserved a medal for this.

Really.

What was up to bat?

Well, this time, it was a shanked, unhoused person who had been squatting in a building at the outskirts of town.

While she didn’t want a case she couldn’t solve, she did want something a little less boring. A dead homeless person in a building?

That one wouldn’t take long to solve.

She’d bet on it.

What was going to be the outcome?

Oh, well, maybe it would be a stabbing by another homeless person like the last three?

Yeah…

Case solved.

Yeah,Holladayhad little to offer by way of exciting cases. She would kill to have something a little more…juicy that would add to her resume.

Not detract.

Unluckily for her, she never got anything good to work on, like the other detectives. She’d read about someone digging up graves to rob them, and that was marginally better than what she always got.

Well, this was her life.

At least after work, she had a better existence the second she got home.

These kinds of cases were about as exciting as they got inHolladay, and she was going to have to just swallow it.

Her boss was going to keep giving her the shitty ones—unless she slept with him.

Oh, and Tora wasn’t that kind of a girl—anymore. She didn’t bed hop, and she certainly didn’t put out for a man who tried to use that as leverage.

That wasn’t happening.

As a child, she had to survive.
