“No. Only those who want to make their woman their Old Lady,” he states, moving his gaze across my face almost as if he’s trying to read my expression.
“Hmm,” is all I can say because I’m not really sure what to say. I have a million questions, but I’m having a hard time actually forming one. Everyone else at the table returns to other conversations, and I take a moment to think. I barely know many of the people at this table, including Axel, but somehow, I feel almost at peace—like this is where I belong. I sit up and shake the feeling away.
“I can hear you overthinking again.” His breath smells like whiskey and smoke. I close my eyes and sink into the feeling of him around me.
“Yeah, well, when I hear talk of you ‘claiming’ me, I feel like that is something I need to think about,” I whisper back. “This is happening too fast, Ax.”
“We will talk about this upstairs, Angel. I’m not claiming you yet.” He brushes my hair back off my neck and starts to trail kisses from the base of my neck to my jaw.
“You think? I barely know you,” I say with a low laugh.
“Dear Lord, take it upstairs, you two,” I hear Cali say from across the table.
I feel my face heat as I sit up and look up to see everyone staring at us. I was so lost in Axel that I had completely forgotten we were with company. I look to Marley and mock-glare at her as she stares at me with anI told you sogrin. I can’t help myself and end up smiling right back at her.
I could get used to this—being with Axel, being a part of this group. But that little annoying voice in my head reminds me that something that burns this hot and bright is bound to fizzle out sooner rather than later. Looking up at Axel I take a moment to memorize his face. I need to remember that I am in control of this. We can slow down and talk about us later.
“How’s Gun?” Blaze asks Cali, pulling my attention back to the conversation.
“Good, asleep when I left him, but I should be getting back.” She stands and stretches her neck from side to side. “Bye, ladies. Let’s meet in the morning for coffee? Seeing as we are all stuck here for a few days.” She walks up the stairs as we all say goodbye.
“A few days?” I look over to Cali and then to everyone around the table. “What?” Everyone at the table looks at me and then to Axel. Seems like I’m the odd one out again.
“Well, that’s our cue to leave,” Sierra says pointedly. They all stand and head their own ways, and I’m left in my seat, confused.
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
axel
Jenna straightensher shoulders and stands from her chair. I look down at her clothes; she’s wearing leggings that hug her plump ass and leave little to the imagination. If only this woman knew what she does to me, the way I feel instantly drawn to her sexy as sin body. My hands move on their own, reaching for her to pull her close, but she takes a step back and crosses her arms over her chest. Her brow furrows, and she pops out her hip for dramatic flair.
I also love her sass but I really don’t need this shit; I’m already pissed off that we didn’t get any good information from that fucking Reaper. I do have to hand it to him, he was loyal to his club to the very bloody end. I run my hand down my face and stare at Jenna.
“Axel, I really don’t like having to get information from other people. If this is going to be something”—she waves a hand between us— “then you have to communicate with me.” God, she’s so hot when she’s all fired up. I level her with a hard look.
“Listen, if this is going to work, you are going to have to trust me to tell you shit when I’m ready,” I say. “This is new to me, Jenna. I’m not used to having someone.”
She softens her expression at my words. “I hear you, Axel. This is moving extremely fast.” She pauses and looks at the floor. “Maybe too fast.” I notice she rolls one of her small gold rings around her finger unconsciously. “This is all so new to me Dane; I just need you to keep me in the loop. Because I feel like I’m going crazy here.”
Taking another step forward, I’m in her space before she can think about moving back. Her breath catches as I slide my hands up her body. “I’ll work on it, babe.”
“Good. Now tell me what all of this ‘a couple days’ business is.” She actually uses air quotes.
“I want you to stay with me until we have the Reaper situation settled,” I say, waiting for her to protest.
“Okay,” she sighs. “I get it, I do. But we need to figure out what is happening between us. Because I think we might need to slow this way down.”
My head spins at her reaction. I thought she was going to fight me on this decision, but she’s willing to stay. The only thing I’m not too keen on is slowing anything down.
“That easy, huh? I thought you were going to give me hell for keeping you here longer than a night.” I bend down and pick her up, her legs come around to wrap around my waist.
“Yep, I don’t really want to go back to our apartment alone. And Marley brought me all of my stuff… and more. So, I think I can stay for a bit.” It almost hurts looking at her gorgeous face; she really is something else.
“I have one condition of this little lockdown. I don’t want to be a prisoner; I am going to need to get out here and there. But I’ll be safe.” Lust fills her eyes as she digs her teeth into her bottom lip. I don’t even know if she knows what she’s doing, but it’s working. Jenna’s innocent look changes quickly into the vixen she is when she starts to grind her needy pussy on me. There’s no mistaking the hard-on I’m sporting in my pants.Naughty girl. Wrapping her arms around my neck, I walk us up to my room.
“I hear you about needing to go and do your own thing sometimes, but while we are still on high alert, I need you to promise me you won’t leave without me or one of the guys.” She stops moving against me and pulls her head back a bit to look at me.
“Axel, that’s a lot for you to ask of me. What if I’m just going to the store or going for a run? I’m not even a part of all this.” she states. I have to remind myself that she has never experienced this life and doesn’t realize that being with me puts a big target on her back.
