“I do have to go, Cres. Should we share a cab and drop you off first?” Izzy says, standing. She checks the time on her phone and grimaces. “Actually, I might already be late. I need to go before I miss my flight. Are you good, Cres?”

“I have a car out front that can take you to the airport now,” Soren offers, and Izzy gives him a skeptical look.

“He’s really your boss?” she asks me, ignoring him.

I bet he isn’t used to that.

“Yes,” I say on a sigh.

“Okay, good. Make sure she gets home safely, bossman. And I will gladly take your car,” she says to him before she leans in and hugs me, telling me to come visit soon.

“I’ll walk you out and show you to the car,” Soren says and then leads Izzy outside.

My sister looks over her shoulder at me and waggles her brows in amusement.

TWENTY-FOUR

SOREN

Cressidaand her sister look alike, but Cressida has a different energy about her, or maybe it’s just the power she unwillingly holds over men, me in particular, that always leaves me confused.

The cold air hits us as we exit the bar, and I escort Izzy to my car and hold open the door for her.

“You like my sister.” It’s a statement, not a question, and she waits at the open car door for me to reply.

“She’s interesting,” I answer.

“Oh, yes, Cres is a ball of fun.” She laughs. “She’s also the workhorse of the family.”

From my research on her, I already know about Cressida’s strong work ethic. She’s been working since she was young and took only the minimum amount of maternity leave before returning to full-time work.

“If you hurt her in any way, I will come for you.” She winks at me and then slides into the car.

“That’s not my intention,” I inform her.

“So, what? Are you two just having a bit of fun?” She places her bag on her lap as she stares up at me expectantly.

“Yes, I guess that’s it. She isn’t after anything more.”

“And what about you?”

“Unsure,” I answer truthfully, though something in me shifts when I say it. I don’t think I’ll ever want more than a temporary situation with a woman.

“Interesting.” She smiles and reaches for the door handle. “Nice meeting you, Soren. I’m looking forward to our next visit.”

I don’t bother correcting her, and she shuts the door.

I walk back into the bar to find Cressida talking to the bartender. He immediately stops when I take the vacant seat next to her.

“How did you find me?” she questions.

“I tracked you,” I tell her, and she gives me an eye roll as she picks up her drink. I put my hand on hers to stop her. “You should stop drinking now.”

“Oh, yeah, and why is that?”

“Because I can’t have you drunk when I bring you back to my place to fuck you.”

Someone near us coughs, but she doesn’t take those soft baby-blue eyes off mine. The truth is, I was listening to her, and I heard the bartender welcome her when she first came in. That’s how I got the name of the bar and found her. So, technically, I didn’t lie to her. She just chose not to believe me.
