“I’ve finalised everything. Wheels up in three hours.”

I nod and pace. “I will never forgive Father for this, Xav. He’s done some heinous things, but this… he will die at my hand. I swear to everything unholy that lives inside of me he will perish and wish he never created me.”

Chapter XXII

We arrive at the hotel and prep. We have everything we need; Vic researches the job so she can fuck it up appropriately without it being obvious, and she irons her outfit for the interview tomorrow. There’s a coffee shop just down the road, and Vic plans to hit it early.

I watch her closely; her jaw ticks and her brows pinch as she prepares for tomorrow.

“Vic, he’ll be okay, I promise.”

“That’s not a promise you can keep, Xav. It’s not yours to make. I should have been prepared. I should have known Father would know what I was up to. I should have known he was having me followed. What the hell is wrong with me, Xav? Why didn’t I see it? Why didn’t I know?”

“So, while you were having your shower, I searched for CCTV footage. I can’t find anything where you directly interact with Jacob or where you show up at his house. I will look into it further when we get back. You just need to stay on mission and finish her off. Can you do this?”

She nods and closes her eyes. “It’s going to be a long few days.”

Chapter XXIII

Flunking the interview, I head out, shoulders sagging and shaking my head. I really play the part. I gave her the coffee, and she drank the whole thing, so it’s now a waiting game. Xav’s waiting in the building to keep an eye on her while I nip back to the hotel and change, then I’m off to search her penthouse suite. Whether she slowly dies at work or makes it home to die alone, either way, I just wish she’d get the fuck on with it so I can get back home.

I break into her apartment. Xav’s still on guard duty, so I set myself up. I install the cameras so we can see into the apartment and retrieve some paperwork I think may be handy. All in all, it’s a very boring job. Just sit and wait.

My phone rings, and Xav says they’re on the move. I dip out and slip into the room across the hall. It'sempty for the next two days, so I hope she fucking dies quick.

There’s a knock at the door, which is Xav’s signal, and he steps in. I have the camera hooked up to the hotel TV, and the fishbowl lens gives the whole view of the apartment besides the bedroom and the bathroom. There’s another camera in the bedroom, so unless she dies in the bathroom, we should get to witness it all.

“She’s not feeling well, so she left work early. She complained of stomach cramps and feeling sick.”

I rub my hands together, grinning at him. “Hopefully, this is it?”

“You’re slightly deranged. Did I ever tell you that?”

“On occasion.” I shrug back and carry on watching.

I’m sitting in the chair, swinging around continuously with a pencil tucked under my nose, holding it here and pouting my lips as the chair turns in circles.

“You really don’t have all your marbles, do you?”

“I’m fucking bored, okay? Is she dead yet?”

“Not yet. I can still hear her puking and shitting.”

“Ooh, not long now, then.”

“You really are a callous bitch, ya know.”

“Why, thank you.” I grin as I continue to spin.

“Will you pack that fucking in now because you’re making me dizzy, and I’m supposed to be watching her die. You’re up in twenty minutes if she’s still breathing.”

“Forty-eight minutes.”

“One hour and seven.”
