Anyone else. If she were anyone fucking else.

“Fuck you, Knox Carter.”

She throws her shirt on, letting it fall down to her thighs, the material sticking to her wet skin before she pulls her panties up her legs and under the hem. And then she walks away, her clothes tucked under her arm, her feet bare.

A wild, hellish woman that one is.

My head bows, and I loosen a breath. I can still feel the way her body wrapped around mine, can still feel the way she trembled as I brought her to orgasm on my fingers. I wanted a taste so bad, wanted to slip my tongue between her lips, to feed from her.

It almost makes me pissed at Chase for interrupting us.

Once out of the water, I lose the wet boxers and slip my jeans back on before I shove my arms through the sleeves of my shirt and return to the camp. A fire is burning in a pit Chase set up, a metal pot of water coming to a boil over the flames.

Chase eats from his bowl, sitting on a log but a quick scan shows Elena isn’t out here with him.

He jerks his chin toward one of the two tents he’s already set up. “She took her food, the flask and the dog, and went straight in there.”

“Leave her,” I sigh, knees cracking as I take a seat beside him.

“Did I interrupt something?” He questions.

“No,” I lie, reaching for his flask resting on the log.

I take a long hit of the whiskey before I dig into the food Chase prepared, shoveling it into my mouth. It’s been a long fucking day, a great day but a long one, and sleep is the only thing I want now.

Though that is going to be interesting since I’m sharing the tent with Elena. There was only so much space for me to use when packing supplies, and there’s no fucking way I’ll bunk with Chase.

When the water boils over, the water hissing when it meets the flames, Chase removes it, pouring it into three cups, handing me two of them.

“I’m hitting the sack.” He stands and stretches. “My ass is still fucking numb.”

I chuckle, “Night.”

He throws a two-finger salute before he disappears into his own tent, cup of whatever tea he picked up at the market the morning before in his hand. He pretends that he doesn’t have a thing for the girl who sells it, but I’ve never seen the man blush harder than when he speaks with her.

Taking the tea, I head to my own tent, pulling back the door to find Elena curled on her side, the bowl empty with the flask next to it. Judge is curled up beside her, his head resting on her body.

She whips her head to me. “What?”

“We’re bunking together,” I warn her.

“Wonderful,” She rolls back over.

“Elena,” I start.

“Don’t,” She snaps, “Just don’t. It’s humiliating enough getting rejected once, but twice?” She shakes her head. “Don’t know why you bother; it’s so very fucking obvious you want me.”

“It’s not that fucking easy.” I growl.

“Bullshit.”

I place the tea down next to her, but she doesn’t reach for it or move as I climb in beside her. The weather is warm enough that we only need light blankets, but I make sure she is covered before I take any for myself and then lay down flat.

The tension fizzles in the small space, thick and heavy and stifling.

Wanting Elena isn’t the problem.

It’s her surname that’s stopping me.
