I’m exhausted after that party, where I was on my feet for way too long, not to mention the internal turmoil I went through with the guysagain.

“It looked pretty nice, and if it’s as soft as the one you guys have in the guest room, I agree. I’d miss it too.”

Saylor turns to his side to look at me. “You miss the guest room? I’m sure the others would kiss your feet if you wanted to go back to living there.”

Never going to happen again.

I swallow hard when memories fill my mind. “Saylor,” I begin, my voice soft but resolute.

“I know, I know. They just proved what idiots they are,” he agrees, rolling his eyes.

“True, they almost ruined Tally’s party.” I bite my lip.

Okay, maybe I’m the reason Tally’s party almost went to shit. But they sure as fuck didn’t help with their behavior.

“Fuck the party. The fact that you’re going on a date with that dickhead now is much worse,” he mutters, clenching his jaw.

“It’s not a real date, you know that, right? I’m not interested. I’ll hang out with him, talk for a bit, and then go back home. I know it was a dumb decision, and I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that, but now I have to go. You can come with if it helps.”

He lets out a long breath. “Oh, I will. But you’re fine. I know why you did it. I was there. They were overstepping again. It’s just… fuck, I’m so fucking jealous.”

I know he’s being vulnerable with me right now, but I can’t stifle a laugh. “Jealous? Of Adam? Saylor, I don’t want him.”

“He’s good-looking, even I can admit that. And the best part? He’s alive.” Saylor is biting on his bottom lip, and I want to reach out and pull it out of his teeth.

“But he’s not you,” I tell him softly, scooting closer.

A sad smile tugs at his lips. “I’m mostly jealous about the date. I would love to take you on one.”

“What would that date look like?” I ask, curious.

I would love to go on a date with him too.

“We would drive your van down the beach, next to the lighthouse, my favorite spot. I would hang some more fairy lights around the van, getting us some snacks and my favorite beer, then I would make a bonfire, getting out some chairs to sit in front of it. We would watch the stars come up in the sky over the ocean. Maybe photograph the sunset.”

“That sounds amazing,” I whisper, longing for an evening just like that.

“Yeah, it would be, but you wouldn’t see the stars for long.” His smirk is mischievous.

“Is that so?” I grin at him.

“I would pull you onto my lap and kiss you hard until the sun rose again,” he whispers, leaning in and pressing his lips against mine, causing my heart to flutter. “I would savor your taste as if you were the sweetest thing I’ve ever tasted because I just know you are.”

“We could still do that,” I whisper, my voice husky.

Saylor’s lips turn down. “Not all of it, but you’re right. We could try.”

A long silence settles between us until Saylor fidgets beside me, his fingers tracing invisible patterns on the bedspread. “Tim and Tally having a song, that’s cute,” he remarks, a hint of longing still in his voice.

I smile, thinking about how cheesy those two are. “It’s adorable and suits them so well. I would have loved to be at their wedding.”

Saylor’s gaze meets mine, his eyes reflecting a vulnerability I haven’t seen before. “What would you say if I said I’d want that too?” he asks hesitantly.

“A wedding?” I ask, furrowing my brows.

“No.” He chuckles softly, his smile warm and genuine. “I thought we already had the till-death-do-us-part talk. I want a song.”

My heart flutters, and I can’t stop the smile forming on my lips. “You want us to have a song?”
