He scoffs at my comment. “What do you mean? You don’t think I can handle something important?”

“Well no, it’s not that. I just didn’t want to add anything major to your plate. Plus, it’s just easier to handle it myself.” It’s not a lie, I’d prefer to do things on my own rather than ask for anyone’s help.

“I can help. Come on, try me. Give me something good to do.”

I stand there thinking of what’s actually left that I could delegate to Nate. I’ve basically handled everything important myself.

“You can be in charge of bringing bags of ice,” I say flatly. It’s literally the only thing left on the list.

“Ice? Really, ice?” I can sense the bothered tone immediately. “Fine.” He sighs. “I’m going to bring the best fucking ice you have ever seen. You have no idea what you’ve just done, Smalls.”

The words rolled off his tongue in a challenge. I’m already regretting this because he’s definitely going to do something obnoxious.

“Oh, great.” Sarcasm heavily rooted in my reply.

“I’m almost home, so let’s talk more later.”

Once Nate and I end the call, I set my phone on the charger before quickly realizing that I completely forgot to ask him about coming with me to see the building. I reach for my phone to call him right back, but a text distracts me.

Summer

I think men are good for orgasms and killing bugs and that’s all. And honestly, sometimes not even the orgasms.

Well, I need them for the orgasms. I can’t give myself one to save my life and I’m embarrassed at the amount of times I’ve tried unsuccessfully.

Oh gosh, what happened?

Summer

I’m just meeting the crappiest men. I need a change of scenery. I can’t wait to be there soon.

I’m so excited for Summer to live here. Don’t get me wrong, I love hanging out with Abby, but she is heavily attached to Ford. Although I can’t blame her… if I had a man who wanted to devour me like a four-course meal every day, I’d be rushing home to him too.

I grab my yoga mat to get a quick stretch and set it up in front of my tripod, placing my phone in the holder just before I click on Nate’s name for FaceTime.

My mind is running through a ton of scenarios right now as it rings. What if I deplete my savings account to afford this building and it fails? I’d be so disappointed in myself and not to mention, embarrassed. I’ve always made it on my own, but something like this… a step this big is scary and it just makes me wish I had a way to be sure it’d all work out. After doing some math earlier, I know that I have enough for the first, last and security deposit in my account… it would leave me nearly pennies, but I can always build it back up.

A heavy sigh leaves my lungs as I sit there and envision everything that building could be. I really don’t know anythingabout owning a business, but I know I’m good at my job. I shake my head just as Nate answers, but I don’t see his face, just the ceiling and there’s steam in the air.

“Uh… Hello?”

“Hang on!” he shouts, his voice echoing.

I stretch my left arm across my body and then my right while I’m waiting for him to grab the phone. My body is leaned forward into the downward dog position when I hear shuffling on the other end and look up. Nate’s shaking his brown hair all over the place and water is sprinkling from every angle. He’s bare chested, but I know he has a towel wrapped around his waist since I catch a glimpse of it as he moves around the bathroom.

“Hey, sorry. Miss me already? What’s up?” He flashes his smile at me. A freshly showered Nate is always a sight for sore eyes. He’s got that whole wet hair thing going on and lingering droplets of water on his forehead. He runs his hand through his hair before he moves into the other room.

“If you were in the shower, you could’ve just called me back.” I laugh as I twist my body to stretch my lower back on the mat.

His head shakes back and forth. “I was just getting out…” I can feel his eyes staring at me all the way through this phone, practically burning into me, before he speaks again. “How are you able to twist your body like that? I’m afraid you’re going to snap yourself in half.” He winces as he watches me through the screen.

“Yeah well, that’s how everyone feels while watching you play football for a living. Fun, isn't it?” I laugh before continuing. “I forgot to ask when we spoke earlier, but do you remember how I’ve wanted to rent my own building for a personal training studio?”

He nods at me.

“Great. Well there’s a place downtown, right around the corner from me and I looked at it the other day… I think it might be perfect—”

Before I can say anything more, Nate interrupts.
