“What’s that scent?” an unfamiliar voice asked, their voice low but hard.
“Blood?” someone else whispered. “They’re hurt. Let’s hope the fuckers bleed to death.”
My fingers dug into the druid’s arm before I remembered who was holding me.
“It’s more than blood,” a third voice spoke, and this time I froze for another reason. I knew that voice. “Keep an eye out. This whole pack is a strange bunch of backwards trash.”
“Four Winds Pack is here,” I told Wolfe. “I recognize Tyler, the alpha’s son. Why are they here?”
“Stay hidden.”
That wasn’t the answer I wanted. I tried to turn my head to look at the druid, but their hold on me was surprising; they didn’t appear to be that strong.
“Think we’ll see any women?” the first one asked. “Iwouldn’t mind a taste of that bitch.”
“The alpha’s daughter is at the Pack Council,” Tyler corrected them. “But her little friend, Adair, is a slut. She’s been fucking one of the monsters from Stonefang. She needs to be taught better.”
A grunt in response. They passed by the space where we were hiding, and I tried again to break free. I could have one’s throat slit before the other two even knew I was there. The druid never lessened their hold, and I was contemplating headbutting them when I heard the next set of feet.
Three in front, three in the back.
The druid knew there were more than three of them. If I’d struck, my back would have been exposed to the rest.
“You three shut up,” someone hissed. “They’ll hear us.”
“There’s no one here to be scared of,” Tyler snapped back with the whiny tone of the spoiled little shit he was.
“Well, I wouldn’t say no one,” Diesel drawled as he stepped out of the night like the monster they thought him to be. He held a single torch in his hand, illuminating his face. His hair hung low, his head was tilted down, but his eyes glittered in the torchlight, full of malice and intent.
The three who had just passed me jumped back in fright, while the three behind turned to run and saw that Cody and Killian were waiting.
“Fight them!” someone yelled.
Wolfe stepped out from between the trees, his eyes finding me even in the dark. “You fight, you die. You talk, I might let you walk out of here.”
Diesel pointed at Tyler. “Not you.” He grinned, and it was downright terrifying.
The druid still hadn’t let me go, nor removed their handfrom my mouth. I saw Wolfe give a tiny nod, and I knew he was telling them to keep it that way.
“You thought we were at the Pack Council,” Wolfe started with no preamble. “Who sent you? Your father? Or the Pack Council?”
Tyler looked around. I recognized that look in his eye well. He was calculating, weighing his odds.
“He’s going to run,”I warned Wolfe.
“I know, princess.”
They wanted him to run. The druid’s hand loosened over my mouth, and I took a breath.
“What is thatscent?” one of the males with Tyler said, sniffing the air, completely distracted by it. “It’s…” He looked around, eyes scanning the trees. “It’s?—”
His eyes landed on me, widening in recognition beyond being just the alpha’s daughter. Killian stepped forward quickly, his hands gripping the male and snapping his neck with the same ease as I would snap a twig, then let him go and the male dropped down dead. The druid tightened their hold on me as his companions leaped at Wolfe and his betas to defend themselves.
The fight was over before it began, and only Tyler remained. Diesel had him in his hold.
“Alpha?” Diesel asked casually.
“Get information out of him first,” Wolfe said as the others moved the bodies. “Druid?”
