They both fuss around, and only after a good five minutes do things become silent. Ares is already asleep, snoring lightly. Ahren is on lookout duty, and everyone else is silent.
That’s when a sudden thought pops into my mind.
I frown thoughtfully. “Ya know, we’ve been here for several hours, and I realised I didn’t even need to take a piss. Think we don’t need to go in this-”
“Shut up!” Allie growls as one of them throws a pillow my way. It hits my face, and I get a whiff of the culprit.
“You ain’t getting this back, Blondie,” I say, tucking it under my head.
“She said, keep it. She doesn’t want it since you touchedit,” Allie remarks icily.
I smirk, cracking an eye open. Seems they only managed one bed since they’re sharing. “Sure thing.”
“Theo, can you shut it and stop causing issues, man?” Jayce says, his voice holding annoyance.
“Man, I didn’t do anything wrong. I was just wondering, did any of you need to take a leak?”
“Theo!” several of them snap at the same time, their auras surging.
I sigh.
Bloody uptight dumbasses.
I mean, it was a genuine thought.
Does that mean we don’t even need to take a dump in this place either?
Beneath the Layers
Heaven
Icouldn’t sleep. The mattress I had made was draining my energy faster than maintaining something like this on Earth would. I kept it up, though. Neither Allie nor I liked sleeping on the ground, so I had to. The fact that she willingly shared a bed was proof enough that anything was better than the hard ground. Our reasons were very different. She hates dirt; I don’t mind feeling the earth beneath me, but I can’t sleep on anything hard.
Tossing and turning, I end up pondering over the best course of action. Hades told me there was a shortcut, as long as we were able to summon a pathfinder.
The only problem, which he of course never mentioned to me, was that after summoning a pathfinder, which I know of from my own studies, the pathfinder will carry out a test. If we pass, they will guide us to our destination, and if we fail, we must pay the price, whatever that might be. That’s my main concern – can we handle what they may throw at us?
Here, our powers are so different from Earth, I’m not sure what we are capable of, or if it will be an intellectual test.
I sit up and walk over to Ahren and sit beside him.
“Hey, you ok?” he asks, putting his arm around me.
I nod, snuggling into him, and smile when his wing closes around me.I’m fine, you should sleep. I can take over the next watch,I write.
He tilts his head, looking at the letters. “I’ll keep you company. You gave up your voice, but you’re still able to perform spells easily, right?”
I nod again.Yes. But I don’t think Hades expected that.I smile.
“Well, you have always been smart.”
I know,I write.
He grins before resting his head on top of mine. “Think she’s doing ok?”
My heart feels heavy, and it hits me just how much he’s missing Sienna right now.Absolutely. She’s strong,I write.
He nods. “Yeah…”
