I look up slowly, my throat tight, my pulse roaring. “You’re asking me? This is your room. This is your handwriting,” I whisper. My hand shakes as I gesture to the board, the symbols, the pages. “What is all this?”
Before an answer can come, a voice slams into my mind, sharp and panicked, as sirens begin to wail outside.
We are under attack. I repeat, we are under attack. Code Red – Ahhh!
A scream cuts through the mind-link.
I’m on my feet instantly, heart racing, questions clawing at me, unanswered and festering. Whatever this is, whatever I’ve just uncovered, will have to wait.
Right now, I have a pack to protect.
“We’ll speak about this later,” I say quietly, my voice steady despite the storm inside me.
Then I turn and run, leaving my confusion and unease behind.
L-Liam, what’s going on?I ask, this is the worst time for an attack.
The Indomitable are here,Liam’s strained voice comes through the mind-link.
And then the night erupts into chaos.
The Will of Witches

“When is Raihana getting back?” Allie asks, suppressing a yawn. I shake my head, almost writing my reply.
“Mama is back, but she’s severely drained. Whatever she was doing, it took a toll, and she’s resting. So, she said she’ll come tomorrow for our next lesson,” I answer quietly.
We’re in the library. It’s late afternoon, and lessons are over. Sienna has fallen asleep beside us. She’s getting hot flushes of heat, although she’s topped up with Leo’s concoction as well as spells to mask the scent when she does get her episodes. They are becoming more frequent, and we will be taking her to Jaddati’s Quarters when she ends up in full-blown heat until she’s transported home.
“Hmm, I hate how I have no idea what everyone’s up to out there while we’re imprisoned in here.” Allie yawns again. We’ve been working late, mulling over our grimoires. There are powerful protection spells in here, but they aren’t spells that canbe erected within hours or days. They are going to take time and will need to be consistently worked on with patience and precision. They are complex, but once up, they could be so much stronger than anything we have ever known.
A power in itself.
I twirl my pen, looking at the spell I’m writing out, and breaking it down as Shahira comes over.
“How’s Sienna? Is she ok?” she asks, looking concerned as she glances at Sienna. I nod.
“She’s just tired.”
“Yeah, she isn’t sleeping as well,” she murmurs.
“Are you studying?” I ask, motioning for her to take a seat with us.
She nods and sits down opposite us. “Yeah, my wolf is weaker than it should be… I’m more witch than wolf, and there’s some research Alpha John wanted me to do, thinking it could help me work on it,” she explains.
“I could ask my mother. She had a similar issue when she first shifted; see if she has any tips she can suggest,” I offer. She looks up and smiles.
“Really? Thanks. I’d appreciate that.”
I nod. She’s a nice girl. “You’re welcome.”
“And then there’s me trying to strengthen my witch abilities that are so insignificant,” Allie says gloomily.
Shahira smiles. “Well, you never know what you might beable to unlock if you keep pushing.”
I nod in agreement. “Precisely.”
