I look up at him, and he shakes his head.“All wolves are Selene’s domain. She has protected them, unless they turn their backs on her, and then they are thrown to me. Otherwise, they will go to her realm. I have no access to them.”
“There has to be a way. Even if you-”
“Do not defy me.”His voice becomes deadly as his aura crushes down on me.“That is a request I cannot fulfil. You are still a wolf. Call on her, see how much she does for you.”There’s scorn and contempt in his voice, and I know I won’t get that wish…
It would have helped her a tad. I think so anyway. Getting to say a proper goodbye… Why does her luck have to suck?
“You’re falling for her.”
“I’m not,” I refute.
“You know your path. Tread carefully, and don’t forget who you are.”With those words, he fades away, and I suck in a breath. My entire body feels weak, and I drop sideways onto thebed, crushing the cigarette in my palm as exhaustion pulls me deeper into its hold. His words echoing in my mind.
Remember who you are…
I awake witha start, instantly feeling something’s wrong. I force myself upright and realise it’s barely been an hour.
I head to the door and pull it open, looking down the hallway where I can see a shirtless Uncle Rayhan talking to Heaven, who’s in a tiny pink satin nightdress. Way too tiny… her long hair is up, and she’s barefoot.
He’s blocking her path, refusing to allow her to go down.
What happened?
“What’s going on?” I ask. I can hear a commotion from outside and from downstairs.
Uncle Rayhan looks up. “There was another attack. A team has been dispatched. Are you alright?”
“Was I called?” I ask.
Uncle Rayhan pauses. “You were, but you didn’t wake up. Jayce was close, so he filled in.”
Fuck, meaning that conversation with Hades took more out of me than I thought.
“Right…” I rake my fingers through my hair as Heavenpulls out of Uncle Rayhan’s hold. “Sure, I’m not needed?”
“It’s covered. You rest, in case they do end up needing backup.”
We need to move to offence. The Indomitable are getting away with everything!Heaven writes. Her fists are clenched, her aura surging around her.I can help!
“No, Heaven. Delsanra and Raihana have gone,” Rayhan says firmly. “We are planning to go on the offensive, rest assured. They will face our wrath. But not tonight.”
I’m…She waves her hand, the word fading as she shakes her head, frustrated, and I try not to notice how she looks in that itty bitty dress.
Such a princess.
I avert my gaze, leaning against the wall. My legs feel like they’re going to give out at any fucking moment.
“I’ll be back; go to bed,” Uncle Rayhan says softly to Heaven.
Heaven crosses her arms as he turns and hurries down the steps. I’m about to turn to head inside again when she walks over to me.
“Better not be walking around like that. I don’t think Ahren would be happy,” I say lightly.
I don’t care… are you ok?she writes, searching my eyes. I smirk, but before I can even speak, her frown hasdeepened.Don’t lie to me.
“It’s nothing… just a meet-up with Hades,” I reply lightly. “Think I’m going to crash, that alright with you?”
She nods, a thoughtful expression on her face as she steps back. I turn and walk into the room, making sure I don’t give away how I feel. I can feel her eyes on me before I shut the door, wondering what’s going on in her mind.
