The bastard thinks he has everything planned out.
What he doesn’t realize is that I’m nobody’s dog to order around. He almost killed me two nights ago. I’m not giving him the chance to finish the job. I’ll let him think that I tried, and that Beau refused—which anyone with a brain would know she would. Allen is convinced that she’s some kind of stupid angel who would allow Ty to say goodbye to his mother.
I know better.
Still, the bitch who just strutted intomyson’s school is the reason I’m in this mess. If she wasn’t in the picture, BB would have caved just like he always does. Now, I’m going to have to leave. I conned Allen into thinking they were getting ready to cut my electric off and he tossed me four hundred dollars like it was chump change—with the promise that if I didn’t deliver results today, he’d make me pay tonight. He’s a fucking lunatic.I collected the rent that was owed on the rental unit BB purchased for me. Gave my brother my keys but told him to lay low for a week or so, and I’m leaving.Right after I serve a certain bitch with some karma.I watch her disappear inside and I get out. I make it over to Beau’s car and kneel down the side that’s not facing the front door of the school. I know I don’t have much time. Allen might think he can keep the men tailing Beau occupied, but I know better. I have very limited time to do this. It doesn’t take me long. Dating BB for as long as I did, taught me a lot about working on vehicles. I watched him and let him teach me shit, because he liked it. I pretended to be the perfect old lady, because I knew the kind of money involved but seriously, how he thought a woman would like to work on cars, when allthat dirt and grease is involved, is beyond me. Of course, now he has paint can Barbie on his side, so who knows.
I take out the tool from my purse that I had my brother pick up. I don’t know what it’s called, I just know that once I get to where the brake lines hook up, I can twist it a few times and loosen them up—or in my case, disconnect them completely. That is if they aren’t stuck on. I watched BB have to heat one up and pry it loose before. I’m hoping since this bitch seems to live in a garage and shit, that she keeps her cars in good condition.
It takes a bit to get the wrench thingy where I need it. Then, I do have to put some muscle behind it, but I manage to disconnect the line from the fitting. The thrill of victory hits me. Then I slide the tool into my pocket and pull out the tiny pocketknife I have. I jab it quickly in between the thicker tread areas. Just in case she gets out of the mess with the brakes, a flat tire at high speed will do the trick, too.
I have a small second of remorse because I know the bitch will be going down a pretty steep mountain where there are no guardrails. That means Ty will most likely die with her. Or, heck, maybe they’ll both just be hurt really bad. It’s not my say in what happens. I’m just giving karma a leg up to deal with that trifling whore who thought she could push me out of my son’s life and take over a role that was always supposed to be mine. I know what BB said, but if I had more time to work the angle that Ty wanted me back in his life and wanted his parents together, BB would have given in. He always does if he thinks it’s what Ty wants. That’s why this bitch has to pay for what she’s done. She ruined everything.
I quietly make it back to my car, start it up, and then make my plan to get the hell out of Dodge. I have to leave before Allen knows what I’ve done. I dial his number, my heartbeat thundering in my ear.
“Yeah?”
“She gave in immediately, just like you said. She said she’d meet me tomorrow afternoon at the KFC,” I lie. I know he’ll find out the truth tonight or tomorrow, depending on how pissed he gets when I don’t show. Still, I need every minute I can get to stay in front of the asshole. If he catches me, I’ll be praying for death. I can’t allow that to happen.
“Good. I told you. Beau has a huge heart. She’s not wired like the two of us. Now, when will you get your ass over here?”
“It will be late. My brother needs me to help him move into his new place. He lost his license and I’m the only one he knows with a vehicle,” I lie praying he’ll tell me to forget it.
“Do I seem like the kind of man who gives a fuck what your brother wants?”
“I can still come over. It will just be a little later,” I whine, scared I’m not going to have any time to get away from this psycho.
“Have your ass at my place by eight tonight. If you’re not here, I’ll come find you, Robin, and you won’t like what happens. Do I make myself clear?”
“Crystal,” I murmur, doing the math in my head. It’s three now. I’ll have five hours, six at the most before he starts tracking me down. Hopefully, I’ll be long gone before then and he’ll find out that Beau had an accident and be more worried about that cow than where I am.
He hangs up without saying goodbye and I put my phone down on the passenger seat with trembling hands. There’s no turning back now. I’m heading to Vegas and I’m not looking back. My friend Derek lives there. I met him online. He works security at a casino there. I’m pretty sure he can get me a job there. I may have to keep him happy so that I have a place to live for a few weeks—just until I find something better, but I’ll deal. Derek was always after me to move there, but honestly, he’s disgusting to look at. He has kinky curly orange hair thatfalls down to his shoulders. There’s a bald spot on the back of his head and he’s about three hundred pounds with a knife scar that runs down the side of his face. If that wasn’t enough of a turn off, his teeth look like they’ve never been cleaned. Maybe I can convince him that letting me brush his teeth for him is a new form of foreplay. Shit, this is all that fucking Beau’s fault. I hope she dies. She deserves it. As for me? I’m done with Kentucky. Maybe I’ll find better luck in Vegas.
BB, Allen, and that bitch can all three kiss my ass.
Chapter 28
Ray
I hang up,trying not to laugh. That bitch can barely talk today. She actually thinks she can make me wait on her. I don’t care if I see her at all. I just enjoy her fear. If she doesn’t show up, I’ll make her life miserable tomorrow. Tonight, I have other plans. I put salt into the fuel tank of that bastard that thinks he can claim my woman. Now, he’s stranded. I heard him outside by that garage he works at, talking to one of his buddies last night. I was parked across the street but had my window down. He left his bike at the garage and drove home with one of the others. It took some work to bypass the security of the garage, but thankfully I’m really good at that kind of thing. I should be, I’ve made a living breaking in and getting what I want—whether that’s physical or things to fatten up my bank account.
This means the bastard is out of commission and Beau will be alone tonight. She may have people following her around, but they don’t come in her house. I’m going to watch her and if I get an opening, I think I’ll take her tonight. I’m tired of waiting.
I look down the small embankment at the truck. The idiots that were following Beau—supposedly guarding her—are currently unconscious in the front seat. It was ridiculously easy to plant a listening device in Beau’s garage. I did it at first justto hear her voice. It calmed me and allowed me to plot my punishment for her easier. Well, it did until that damn biker fucked my woman on her desk and I had to hear it. She’s going to get twenty lashes for that. She’ll be screaming in pain and begging me to stop it. When I heard he was planning a trip out of town, and that he asked two men to follow her around. I began to plan. I knew it would be a long-shot that I could get her alone, but I knew I could get him out of town longer than planned. Then, Beau and the men that were supposed to be her bodyguards decided she would drive alone, and they’d follow. That’s when I knew I had a good chance to get my woman sooner than anticipated.
I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I had skills that came in very handy. Once, before I realized I could make more money taking what I wanted instead of working, I was a mechanic for a car lot that specialized in a buy-here-pay-here clientele. To ensure they didn’t avoid us—or use their car if they failed to pay—we put in a kill switch that disabled the vehicle with a push of a button. The tricky part was getting it installed in each vehicle the men drove that day. It was a pain in my ass, but since I wasn’t sure what they’d drive or if more than one would, so I had to take special precautions. Luckily, they all gather in Beau’s house for lunch and gossip like fucking kids. With that done, I loaded up some tranquilizers I helped myself to at a local vet’s office. They’re for horses. I was nice and did only give a half dose. It still might be too much. Hell, it could kill them, but I gave them a chance. It’s more than they deserved. When their car stopped, they got out and I shot them with the tranquilizer darts before they made more than a couple steps. Next, I put them back in their truck. I shifted the gear into neutral, then pushed the car forward until the small hill propelled them forward and out of sight.
It was surprisingly easy.
I relax into the driver’s side of my car and watch the faces in the oncoming vehicles. I can’t afford any surprises. I see Robin’s deathtrap of a vehicle come rolling down the road. There’s not a lot of traffic right now. That will change shortly when the kid’s school officially dismisses. I stretch and press a button, so my stereo begins playing Mozart’s Romance from 1785. This is mine and Beau’s song. I will play it nightly while I’m bringing her to heel.
A few minutes later, I see Beau’s car pass by. I immediately pull out and follow my little pet.
Tonight is the night.
