Thankfully, I didn’t have to wait to get her alone any longer. One by one, people began to leave, hugging Katie at the door.Amanda stumbled out with Tina, too drunk and wrapped up in each other to notice when I said I’d stay to help clean.

Caleb stayed long enough to catch my eye.He pointed two fingers at his eyes, then at me.He mouthed, ‘I’m watching you.’

I bit back a laugh, mouthing back, ‘Go home, Dad.’

Anna and Kyle ushered him out before he could charge towards me.

And then it was just us.

The house felt enormous in the sudden quiet.Plates and glasses littered the dining table, ribbons of gold and silver streamers still swaying from the ceiling.

Katie stood in the middle of it all, barefoot now, the thin strap of dress slipping slightly off one shoulder, her hair tumbling in messy waves.

She glanced at me, a small, tired but glowing smile tugging at her lips.“Looks like it’s just us, Dylan.”

I’M ONLY HALF A VIRGIN NOW

KATIE

Ididn’t feel nervous, but anticipation coursed through my veins.

Dylan leaned against the closed door, his gaze raking over me like I was the only person left on earth. My pulse drummed in my ears, each beat a reminder that there was no one else here.Just us.And Pollux.

His husky voice was smoky when he asked, “What do you want?”

My lips parted, and there was no hesitation when I answered truthfully, “You.”

The word set me free.I didn’t want anyone else.Buthim.

Something dark flickered across his face as he locked the door. The click echoed in the house, giving me goosebumps.

“Are you sure?”he asked, his voice tight as if he was holding himself together.

I nodded.

“You’re not drunk?”

I shook my head.I was tipsy, but the realization of us alone without any distractions—unless Pollux jumps out of his tank, which was impossible—made me giddy with excitement.

His lips curved, a mischievous smile tugging at his lips.“What’s your star sign?”

I tipped my head, humming and pretending to think before I replied playfully, “Virgin.”

That earned me a low laugh that made my skin prickle. He stepped closer.“Math test, then.Three times nine?”

“Twenty-seven,” I said confidently.

“Smart girl.”His eyes gleamed.“Remove your dress, darling.”

Heat rushed through me as I reached behind, fingers grazing the zipper, but I paused.

My lips curved into a smirk.“You do it.”

“You’re playing with fire, Katie,” he said, taking a step closer.“My patience is hanging by a thread.”

“So what?”
