“Is he okay?”

I looked up to see my mom, her worried look making my heart clench. She had been talking with Sean’s mom.

I nodded. “His vitals look better.”

She sighed in relief. “That’s good.”

We all sat down outside his private suite room. Yes, Sean was admitted in a private hospital room that was as big as his master bedroom.

Awkward silence fell over us, tension hovering in the air. Noticing it, Sean’s mother went to get some coffee. My mom had scratched a guy pretty badly when they tried to kidnap me. Despite our differences, she cared about me.

“I’m sorry.” We both said in unison. My eyes widened, and I let out a nervous chuckle. Tucking a lock of hair behind my ear, I said, “I’m sorry for yelling at you earlier, Mom.”

Her warm hand squeezed my hand. Her eyes were gentle when she looked at me, wiping the tears from my cheek. “My sunflower.” Her tone almost brought me to tears again. “I… I’m sorry I doubted your feelings.”

She blinked and shook her head. “I don’t understand the age gap between you two.” I held my breath when she continued, “But I understand that he cares for you. If he didn’t… you would get shot and?—”

She closed her eyes. “I still need time to… to wrap my head around you and Sean.”

I smiled and hugged her, breathing in her homely scent. “Thank you, Mom.” I pulled away and said, “I promise I won’t hide anything from you.”

She smiled, patting my head. “Tell me how you two met.”

My smile froze. You see, mom, I was strapped for cash, so I signed up to be a server in a strip club wearing tiny clothes and he asked me to kneel for him. And I did. For a few grand. He took me to his penthouse, fed me, and let me sleep in his guest room without making any sexual advances.

I swallowed and was about to reply when the doctor and nurse came out with a frown. “Is there someone named Princess here? He won’t shut up about seeing her.”

I smiled sheepishly with my cheeks burning and walked in the room. My heartbeat started racing seeing him sitting up on the hospital bed and scowling at the bandage wrapped around his left shoulder and torso. His bed head made him look young and almost boyish.

“Princess,” he beamed, seeing me and his eyes trailed down to the blood stained on my jeans. Thankfully, Mom had brought me a new tee shirt while Noah stayed at my apartment with Rory. “Are you hurt?”

I glared at him, flicking his forehead. “How can you ask me that when you’re the one who got shot?” My bottom lip quivered. “I hate you. You broke my promise and got hurt. Do you know how scared I was? I thought you—I hate you.”

I couldn’t even say the word.

His dark eyes kept looking at me. I felt vulnerable in front of his stare and looked away. “Come here, Princess.” He called me softly and dammit, I couldn’t stay away or hate him for much longer.

Sean held my hand and pulled me up on the bed, which was big enough for two. I didn’t let him sit me on his lap, even though he gave me his puppy eyes. He pouted, but changed his tone when I glared at him. “I’m sorry for scaring you, Chelsea, but I never broke your promise.”

I raised my brows, nodding at the bandage that was wrapped around his upper body.

“I promised you that my fingers or cock won’t get hurt,” Sean smirked. “And I kept my promise.”

God, he is such a lawyer!

I gave him a look and deadpanned, “You’re on a sex-ban.”

“What?” His smirk fell. “Hey! That’s not fair! You promised me the sloppiest blow job, and I’ve been dreaming—mmgh.”

I shut him up the only way I knew he would. By kissing him softly. Cupping his jaw, I slanted my head and gently claimed his lips before pulling back. I always felt warm and safe around him. Only he made me feel that way.

“If you get hurt again, I will kill you, Daddy,” I threatened him.

He smiled against my lips and kissed me. “Whatever you say, Princess.”

Our kiss turned clumsy, but before it could lead to anything else, I had to say it. “I love you,” I said, looking into his dark eyes. “I love you, Sean. I thought I had lost you and you’d never know how I feel about you—and I don’t want to ever feel like that again. As if something important was left unsaid, so…I love you.”

His cheeks flushed, kissing me. His lips pressing against mine before pulling back and whispering, “Say it again, Princess.”
