I frowned, seeing the message from an unknown number.

Anonymous: You don’t want me to come looking for you

What does that mean? I had paid off all the debt, thanks to Sean, and even gave a few grand to mom so she could take care of herself. I was helping her with Noah’s school fees, but I wanted her to spoil herself a little.

“What’s that frown on your face, Princess?” Sean asked, opening the passenger door for me.

I shook my head. “Nothing, just a scam message.” I got out of the car and smiled when Sean opened the door for Noah.

He held both of our hands and started talking about how he was a prince if I was a princess. It had been a while since I had spent an entire day with him, and I was so happy to see him and Sean get together.

He seemed annoyed at first, and as soon as Sean spoiled him with candies and games, he called him his best-friend.

Sean had brought us to a nearby burger joint even though I told him I could cook lunch for us. But he was in the mood to spoil my little brother.

Delicious scent of fries, hamburgers and thick milkshake filled my nostrils. Bell ringed above us as I looked around to see that the small restaurant was almost full.

“You can have the corner table for your cute kid and gorgeous wife,” a server said, winking at me before taking an order for a family.

Sean and I looked shocked, blood rushing to my cheeks. He cleared his throat, doing a terrible job to hide his smile, leading Noah to the corner booth. Noah had blond hair, just like me, and he was holding Sean’s hand so I could see why the server thought we were a family.

But could we have a family? Me, Sean and our child…

I covered my stomach and shook my head at the silly thought. He had just introduced me as his girlfriend to Cillian and Emma. I was sure he wasn’t thinking too much of it.Like I was.

My phone pinged with another message. I planned to ignore it, but it beeped with two more consecutive texts.

It was the same unknown number.

Anonymous: Give us a million more for interests

Anonymous: or your dad dies

Anonymous: come here tomorrow at ten

My stomach dropped, palms getting clammy with nerves as I blinked and re-read the message.Loan sharks. I didn’t know how they got my number, but I knew it was them. I had heard cases where they would threaten family to get more money out of the victims in the name of interests.

It was illegal. I should tell Sean.

I glanced at him, laughing with Noah and ruffling his hair. I swallowed, looking at the text. If I tell him, he could get in danger. Or Noah could.

Maybe I can tell the police. Give them an anonymous tip.

Making up my mind, I sat across from my brother and Sean, asking what they wanted to eat.

I forced a grin when Noah asked me something about a video game, my mind wandering to my dad. I didn’t care about him, but he was family. I didn’t want him to die for his stupid gambling addiction.

“I’ll be right back!” Noah announced, rushing to the washroom.

“Don’t run!” I said, watching him disappear inside. I sighed and shook my head.

Sean’s hand closed around mine, his eyes piercing as he asked, “Is everything okay, Princess?”
