My thighs clench as I bring my body closer to his. My nipples drag over his bare chest and his hands grip onto my ass.

“Fuck,” he growls out, as I kiss his lips, biting down on his bottom lip and suck it into my mouth. Our movements become wild and messy.

I feel a smack on my ass as I move harder and faster and more desperate.

“That’s it. Come for me.”

And I do.

I come the same moment he does, and I see his face contort into disbelief as he empties himself into me.

Our breathing calms and I eventually roll off him, grabbing my discarded clothes.

He sits up on his side, his arm bent at his elbow and head propped on his hand.

“I could stare at this view all day long,” he says watching me. I can feel myself blush from his praise. As I dress, the quietness from outside registers in my brain.

“Do you think everyone is okay out there?” I ask as reality slaps me in the face. My friends. Those people out there. What the hell was I doing in here acting like this?

Hendricks stands, shucking on his clothes feeling the shift in my mood. He seems to put a wall up in that moment and whatever intimacy we shared just moments ago is gone. There’s a chasm of space between us, but what chance did we really have.

He’s a scare actor and I’m going home at the end of the week.

He blinks at me hard like I just said something insulting, but then a bang on the door interrupts us.

“It’s Maverick,” he says before I even go to open the door.

“How did you?—”

“I should be going. See you later,” Hendricks says, running off without even turning around. And I’m left in the cabin all alone.

Before the door closes, I catch a glimpse of Maverick and get a worried feeling in my gut. He’s injured. Blood clings to his face and side and he’s limping.

I don’t get much time to process it though, because as soon as the door closes, it’s yanked open again. Only when it’s opened, Faye, Audrey, Iris, McKenzie, and Stephanie all come spilling in looking thoroughly drunk and disheveled.

“Where the fucks my bed?” Fay slurs, unsteady on her feet.

“Jesus, how much did you guys drink?” I ask, watching them all stumble in. I haven’t seen them this far gone since the summer of 2015. When we’d snuck out to Betty Drivers party and drank our weight in alcohol. I thought I was going to die in her cornfield.

Exhaustion hits me all at once and I barely manage to brush my teeth before climbing into my bed. The sheets smell like Hendricks, and I fall asleep wondering if I’ll get a chance to see him again.

Chapter 17

Lydia

Ican’t stop smiling as I replay my night with Hendricks. It caught me by surprise and has me reconsidering this whole trip. Maybe Nightmare Acres isn’t such a bad place after all if that’s how I get to spend my nights here from now on.

When my friends finally made their way back to our cabin it was nearly morning. My body was sore but satisfied. I have no idea what transpired outside these four walls, but when Maverick came back, he looked inches from death. And not seeing Jack at all had me wondering what the hell transpired out there.

“I think we should just hang by the lake today. I’m exhausted,” Faye yawns, stretching her arms up into the air.

“I agree,” Audrey mumbles.

“Whatever happened to you last night, Lyd? You disappeared.” McKenzie asks. I feel my face heat at the attention.

“You dirty slut. Did you do all three of those guys?” Faye shrieks.

“No,” I answer rolling my eyes. Though I wouldn’t object if the opportunity presents itself. “There was some kind ofcommotion happening out in the woods. Maverick and Jack went to go investigate and Hendricks stayed here with me.”
