“Is Javelynn here?” Skye asks, trying to look past, but Jackson blocks her, moving his body to fill up the empty space in the door. My inner demon lurches in my chest, having been quiet since the night on the beach.

Something isn’t right.

“Skye…” I go to grab her elbow, but she shrugs me off.

“Jackson, seriously what’s your deal?” Skye asks, facing him off with her arms crossed over her chest. “I want to see my friend.”

He doesn’t budge, looking down at her as if she’s an unfamiliar inconvenience. Okay, fuck this guy.

Graham and Sloan are already inching closer, sensing the samewrongness.

“They’re not here right now. They went to be with their family for the holiday.” He says.

Skye narrows her eyes at him, putting her hands on her hips. “Then you won’t mind if we come in for a second.” She tries to push past him, but he blocks her again, grabbing her by the shoulders.

“Take your hands off her.” I leer over at him, daring him to try something. Give me an excuse to let out this pent-up rage. I’m seething seeing his hands digging into the tops of her shoulders. I know she can more than take care of herself, but I will always defend her.

“There’s nothing for you in here.” Jackson says, hands still clasped tightly on my girl. I’m seconds away from ripping each of his stout fingers clean off his body.

“I’ll be the judge of that. Now, move aside before I make you.” Skye’s eyes flash and Jackson snarls, pushing her back. We cage in around him, but Skye’s hand is already emitting a powerful glow that Jackson sneers at.

“So, you all switched your sides. Chaos will not be pleased with you.”

“What did you just say?” I snarl, pushing past Skye and grabbing him by his preppy collar.

“You heard me.” Jackson replies and I decide there, that will be the last mistake he ever makes.

With Jackson out of the way, squirming in my hands, Skye pushes into the room and lets out a screech as she runs to a supine Javelynn. Their limbs shake uncontrollably as Skye crouches down to them unsure of how to help.

“What did you do to them?” I ask, my face mere inches away from his. My spit coats his cheeks. He tries wriggling away from me like the worm he is, but Graham and Sloan grab him on each side.

“We came here for a purpose, and you spit in our faces. Taking up with her.” Jackson gestures at Skye, trying to rip himself from our grip.

“What are you even going on about?” Sloan asks, turning his head to look at Skye on the floor. She’s hunched over her friend trying to help them from smacking their head into the ground with how violently they’re shaking. I go to their side, sliding a pillow underneath Javelynn’s head.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with them!” Skye’s fingers glow, wisps of light emanate from her fingers into Javelynn’s head as they begin to calm. Javelynn’s eyes flutter and then burst open, looking completely black.

Jackson manages to get an arm free from Sloan while he’s distracted, punching him square in the face. A scuffle breaks out between the three of them, Graham holding back Jackson’s arm while he waves his other one at Sloan, managing to dig his fingers into Sloan’s face. Sloan cries out as Jackson turns his ire on Graham, wrenching his arm away from him and pushing him to the ground as he takes off down the hallway.

I jump up from the ground, scrambling after him.

“Lukas don’t” Skye calls out, but I ignore her. Rage pumps through my veins at this piece of shit, fueling my muscles to move faster. I grab him by the back of his collar just as he reaches the stairs. Pushing him against the rail, his torso dangles, feet kicking frantically as he hangs.

“Tell me, what the fuck is going on.”

Jackson lets out an evil cackle that reverberates along the empty stairwell. “We escaped. We serve Chaos for he lets us live. We are a legion, and we are free.”

“Then let me set you free.” I feel the tug of Lust take over as my fingers release Jackson. He continues to laugh all the way down as he falls to the bottom of the stairwell with a sickening crack. I stare down at his crooked and broken from, blood seeping from his body. Doors begin to open and the sound of students coming out of their dorms fills the air.

“Let’s go!” Graham says, Skye and Sloan in tow. They run at full speed towards me.

“What happened?” I ask, my heart hammering in my chest.

“They’re possessed. They’re all possessed. Javelynn tried to stab me!” Skye says running down the stairs. “We need to go. Now.”

As we run down, more students come out of their rooms, filling into the stairwell with us.

“Traitors!” Some of them yell, gaining on us.
