A body knocks into us, giggling at a high pitch. I’m immediately annoyed, turning to see who it is.
“Oh my GOD. The queens. So sorry your highnesses.” She says with a mock curtsey. I can’t make out her features too well in this lighting, but I feel Salem’s body tense before she shakes me off.
“What’s your problem?” I ask, towering over the bitch.
“Don’t waste your time, Walker. She’s just miserable.”
“Fuck you. I’m not.” The girl says swaying on her feet, clearly drunk.
“Come on, lets ignore her and enjoy our night.” Salem says, grabbing my wrist.
I go to follow her, but the short blonde girl manages to claw at my other forearm, spinning me towards her. She walks her fake nails up my chest, batting her eyes up at me. “What do you guys see in them? Are we not good enough for you?”
I snatch her hand and throw it off me. “Yeah, that’s right. You’re not good enough for me.” I say with a sneer.
She sticks out her lip in a pout. “Do you even know who I am?”
“I really don’t care. You’re not her.” I say turning away and going to my girl.
“Let’s get out of here.” Salem says to Skye.
We follow them out of the bar into the night.
“Ay. Yo.” A deep male voice calls out from the door. “Were you just hitting on girlfriend?” He points a finger straight at me.
I put my hands up. “She came onto me. I don’t want anything to do with her.”
“Oh yeah?” He says stumbling out. The guys straighten. We’ve all been drinking, but we’re not toasted yet.
“Go back inside.” Lukas says, cracking his knuckles. I’ve noticed that ever since Pierce died, he has an angry streak that simmers close to the surface. He’d happily beat this guy to a pulp and not even think twice.
“Make me.” The guy says, pushing against Lukas’s chest.
Lukas goes to take a swing, but Graham pulls him back. “No way. We don’t need to get fucking suspended or expelled for this drunk piece of shit.”
“Say that to my face.” He says, spitting on the ground.
“Yo, buddy. Walk it off, man.” Sloan says stepping between the drunk guy and Lukas.
The guy shoves Sloan, but Sloan sees it coming and maneuvers out of the way, shoving the guy in his back. He stumbles, knees hitting the gravel.
“You fuckers think you’re so much better than everyone over there in your fraternity.” He says dusting himself off as he struggles to stand back up.
“Travis, baby! What did they do to you?” The blonde girl from earlier cries out, running to his side.
“It’s okay. We’ll make them pay.” He says, leaning his body onto her as she leads him away.
“Yeah? We’d love to see it.” I say, anger coating me, ready to unleash my pent-up fury. I’ve been shoving it down, but it aches to be set free.
The girl glances back at us and flicks us off. Lukas throws his head back with a laugh. “Oh no, I’m so scared.” He says, pretending to shake. He snags Skye, tucking her into his side.
As we walk back to the house, small snowflakes start to fall, tracking our footprints.
Salem snuggles up to me, her outfit not offering enough warmth for the walk back home. I rub my hands down her arms as snow catches in her lashes. “It’s so beautiful.” She remarks, staring up at the sky.
“Not as beautiful as you.”
She smacks my chest. “Don’t be fucking corny.”
