Itext Javelynn and Skye, deciding we all need a break from the drama of the last few weeks. Most people have already headed home for the Thanksgiving break, so the island is less busy than usual.

We plan to meet up at the ferry to head into Seattle for a day, planning to stop at several shops and whatever restaurant we stumble upon while out. As much as I love Graham’s cooking, I’m looking forward to a restaurant quality meal.

I pull on a grey knit sweater, a black skirt, and some black flannel leggings. I grab my Doc Martins and run down to the living room to meet Skye, where I find Graham and Walker looking like two little lost puppies.

“What’s with you guys?” I ask, grabbing my coat from the closet.

“They’re mad we’re going without them.” Skye answers, grabbing her purse and coming to stand next to me. I shrug on my shoes and roll my eyes.

“We’re with them all the time. Today’s a friend only day, and you two have unfortunately forfeited that title once you stuck your eggplants in us.”

Skye smacks my arm. “Just say penis.”

Walker strides up to me grabbing me around the waist. “Call me if you need me, Wildcat.”

I give him a kiss on the lips, loving how protective he is of me.

Graham also gives a goodbye kiss to Skye. We trudge off down the road, calling the school transport system to take us into town. While it’s a nice day, we’re already going to be walking a lot once we get to the city.

We meet Javelynn at the ferry and hustle inside to avoid getting smacked around by the wind. Then we find a bench up front with a view of the ocean. Several more people and cars board until we receive the all clear to pull away from shore.

“Tell me, what’s been going on with you. I’m sorry I’ve been such a shitty friend.” I start out with. Javelynn was my first friend at Kildale and I really fell apart after losing Pierce. Shutting almost everyone out, including Javelynn. Guilt eats at my stomach for ghosting them.

“Please, you’ve had so much going on. I’ve been busy with Jackson and loving every second of it.”

“How’s that going?” Skye asks, crossing her legs to slide closer to us. It might be warmer in here, but there’s still a chill in the air made even more pronounced by the metal bench under our butts.

The ferry rocks us lightly as they fill us in on their shiny new relationship. “We haven’t done ‘it’ yet, since we’re still getting to know each other. I need to know that he’s really here for me you know? I’ve been fooled too many times before.”

“Pfft. I hear that. I just heard from an ex of mine the other day. He texted me out of the blue acting like he didn’t break up with me because he thought I was ‘too fat’.”

I snap my neck to look at her. “He said what?”

“And Lukas found the text.”

“What did he do?” Javelynn asks.

“He snatched my phone and took a picture of my screen.”

Javelynn and I smile at each other.

“What?” She asks.

“Nothing. So, Jackson and you are good, what else is going on?”

Javelynn fills us in on their plans for Thanksgiving break, telling us that their dad is having the company helicopter pick them and Jackson up.

“Spending a holiday together? That’s a big deal!” Javelynn blushes all the way up to their ears.

Once in Seattle, we bustle through the busy city sidewalks, stopping in a beauty store first. I’m low on black eyeliner and need to grab some tampons while we’re out. That stabby bitch was coming for me this week, and I was not looking forward to it. I wonder if there’s a spell to stop you from having a period. The only thing I’d found in my research was to be pregnant, and there was no way I was taking that option. Kids were not on the menu, maybe ever.

When we go to checkout, a gaggle of girls I recognize from school stand behind us talking loudly.

“Oh my God! Isn’t it the Queens of Hell House and their little friend?” One of the girls asks in a snotty tone.

“Excuse me?” Javelynn asks, turning around to look at them.

“It’s so nice to see you all doing something other than those guys.”
