It was finally time.
I’d been patient, and now it was paying off. The girl had been subdued, giving me a chance to stretch out and take control over her.
“Salem?” One of her friends asks.
I recognize this one. The goddess.
I raise Salem’s lips into a smile.
“What’s going on?” The girl asks.
The house shakes again, making the pictures fall off the walls.
“Something has made it angry.” I say, turning my head in the direction of the commotion.
“Made what angry?” She asks.
“Skye, Salem, let’s go!” One of the boys says, running up to us. I flick my wrist and use my power.
“Come out to play, Gluttony.” I say, watching as the demon takes over.
I snake my smoke throughout the house, pulling the demons to me. I wait as they fall in line like soldiers.
The one named Skye looks wide eyed at us.
“Be a good little girl and get out of our way.” I say.
She pulls her hand into a fist, rearing back to hit me, but I grab her hand easily.
“Give me back my friends!” She shrieks as I push her off me.
I walk past her, the demons falling in line behind me. There was no time to waste on dealing with hysterics.
“Deal with her.” I instruct to the demons.
Lust snatches her up, hoisting her up over his shoulder as she screams and attempts to kick him herself free.
The house has emptied of all the party goers, leaving just the eight of us here. We walk together out of the house.
“What’s attacking the house?” Skye asks, still attempting to pry Lust off her.
“The demon dog.” Wrath answers. “It knows we’re here and it wants our blood. It craves evil.”
“We don’t have time for stupid questions. We need to get to the veil.” I snap, heading down the trail that leads to the cave.
We stalk through the night, determined to fulfill years of planning.
The beach greets us with waving yellow caution tape, which I rip through easily.
I throw my power into moving the boulders out of the way. Feeling the call of the veil pulsing through my veins. The cries of the lost grow deafening in my mind as my magic lifts the last of the crumbled cave, revealing the rift in the veil. It pulses, as I stalk towards it.
“Wait a minute!” A deep voice from behind me bellows.
I turn and see Leighton Ledger striding up to us.
I bare my teeth, annoyed by the interruption.
“What the fuck do you want, Ledger?”
