I pause. This is new information.
“Who? Who is she related to?”
“I don’t know, but that helps, right?” Gary looks so hopeful. Little gremlin.
“We’ll see about that.”
Sirens and flashing lights fill the circular driveway out front and bounce off the books in the library.
I glance at Ryker. “I’d ask how you found me, but I believe you made peace with the fact that Tatiana is not the bad guy.”
He nods.
“Good, because we’re going to need her help.”
Chapter 39
“Great. Nepotism Central is having a Saber Convention.”
-Ryker
The Saber Security holding cells are filling up, and we haven’t even found two of our bad guys yet. At least Dakota Helfinger and Gary Griego are off the streets. The ATF and Marshals Service weren’t sure where to send them first, so we’ll keep them in custody for the time being.
Taking Griego off the board will also mean fewer goons are coming after us, but it also means Jeffrey Rose might get desperate. And desperate people do desperate things.
That’s why five Sabers and their significant others are crammed into the Saber Security conference room talking at once.
“Let me have a crack at him,” Flint rolls his shoulders. “I’ll get him talking in a hot minute.”
“Easy there, big lug,” Celia places a hand on his arm. “We need him to talk, not be beaten to a pulp.”
Flint softens as he looks at his wife. “I wouldn’t beat him to a pulp, lalelei.”
“We could try some truth serum drugs,” Rand suggests.
“Rambling Man, those don’t work as well as people think they do,” Carolina shakes her head.
“Those are the over-the-counter truth serums,” Rand pulls a test tube out of his pocket. “I made something that works better.”
“We’re not going to need that,” Cam shakes her head. “Although, you might want to keep that on the back burner if one of our kids gets out of control.”
Wysdom claps her hands. “Or in case someone tries to deny they’re in love with someone else.”
The entire room goes quiet, and everyone stares at her. Then they look between Cat and me. She flushes beet red. I look at the ceiling.
“Need to focus,” I turn to Tatiana.
“Agreed!” Kitten says a little too loudly. “Gremlin Gary said something about Premy’s relation to someone in prison. What can you tell us about that?”
Tatiana clicks away on her keyboard. “Shit. I didn’t catch this earlier because we weren’t digging into adoption records, but there it is, plain as the nose on my face!”
“And?” Luke prods.
“Premy Sagadore has an adopted brother, or a step-brother, hell if I can figure out what it means, but the bottom line is - she has a relation in prison,” Tatiana connects to the big screen. “Beckley ‘Beck’ Weiss was in the same prison as Jeffrey Rose. Armed robbery.”
“Was he roommates with Rose or something?” Aaron Pearce asks.
Tatiana shakes her head. “Negative, Chief. He was on the next cellblock.”
