I dry heave. “Nope. Don’t. Just don’t.”

Sean laughs. “Seriously, what’s going on?”

I search for the words. I’m not sure what to tell him. I lead a great life. I can go wherever I please. I answer to no one except my boss, and that’s at a job I love. My family is fantastic. Everyone’s healthy. And in love…

“I’m,” I pause. “Bored.”

He barks out a laugh that causes the very posh people in the bar to pause, clutch their pearls, and then return to solving the world’s crises.

“Bored? You? Never.”

I shrug. “It doesn’t sound like me. But, it is.”

“Why are you bored?”

“Dunno.”

“I think you do,” Sean narrows his eyes. “Is this because of your sisters getting hit by Cupid’s arrows?”

“No,” I snort.

Sean cocks a brow and sips his drink.

“Maybe,” I admit. “They’re like dominoes. Even Cam, though she won’t admit it. My twin has it bad for that fire chief. It’s going to take a grand gesture to get those two together.”

“She’s a grown-ass woman,” Sean reminds me. “So are you. You can do anything you want. But, maybe that’s part of the problem.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“There are studies that found people who go on vacation are happier when they’replanningthe vacation, not when they’re on the actual vacation,” Sean begins.

“And?”

“They have something to look forward to. It’s the anticipation.”

“Still not picking up what you’re laying down, sweetheart,” I grunt.

“When was the last time you went on vacation? Took time off?”

“I see my sisters all the…”

Sean cuts me off with a slice of his hand through the air. “No. Not family. I’m talking about a vacation where you didn’t have to drive somewhere to see or host your family. Or cook, or clean, or do anything for someone else.”

“I took a trip just this week,” I protest.

Sean continues as if I said nothing. “And didn’t have to ferry the dregs of society to and fro.”

My face heats. “Damn it.”

He nods. “I thought so.”

“I don’t think this is about relaxing.”

“Couldn’t hurt,” Sean pauses. “When was the last time someone took care of you? Took care of your needs?”

I say nothing and stare into the dying bubbles of my not-so-sparkling water.

“What doyouthink you need?”
