“Hey, Ryker,” Cat asks.
“Yeah?”
“Do you know why men have a hole at the end of their penis?”
Shit. I can’t be having this conversation with her right now. “No.”
“So they can be open-minded,” Cat barks out the answer and falls back on the bed laughing, holding her sides.
I roll my eyes. “I’m glad you’re amused.”
“It’s fucking hysterical.”
“You’re drunk.”
She stops laughing. “No. Not even close. I don’t drink.”
“No?”
“No. But I might be punch-drunk. I’m running on fumes. And I’m still recovering from an - accident - a few weeks ago.”
I know all about the accident, but say nothing, because her new partner isn’t supposed to know about that.
“Roger that,” I set the glass down on the counter. “You want to shower?”
“Nope,” Cat stretches out on top of the ugly bed next to the bathroom. “Gonna’ shut my eyes for a few minutes. Then I’ll be good as new.”
“A Cat nap?” I smile.
She doesn’t answer.
“Kitten?”
Nothing but soft snores come out of her mouth as she tucks a pillow into her midsection. I watch her sleep like a fucking creeper for longer than I should, then hop in the shower.
The coldest shower I could get.
Chapter 14
“They’re all spelled correctly, too.”
-Cat
I’m trapped when the flames start. The car’s engine block is pushing against my legs. The heat from the metal is unbearable. And the driver’s door is crushed, pinning me inside the vehicle. I can’t move my legs or arms. Smoke begins to fill the cabin. I open my mouth to scream, but nothing comes out. Black dots dance through my eyesight as I sit straight up in bed, clutching my neck and sucking in air.
It takes me a minute to realize I’m no longer trapped in that car. Or the nightmare.
Instead, I’m trapped in the motel from hell with Ryker the Biker.
The man who’s standing in front of me without a shirt to cover his impressive array of ink.
“You snore,” Ryker reaches for a shirt in his duffle bag.
I blink a few times and stretch out my tight muscles. I meant to close my eyes for a few minutes last night, but the sun peeking in through the shitty drapes tells me it’s tomorrow.
Or today.
Whatever. You know what I mean.
