She shakes her head.
“Does Luke know?”
“No one knows, except you and me.”
Not once since I met her have I ever seen Wysdom without a ridiculous smile on her face. I know it’s because she’s deliriously happy with her family. There have been times that I wondered if she ever had a bad day. Celia assured me Wysdom had plenty of bad days before falling in love with Luke.
And I knew life would send more bad days her way, like the rest of us.
I consider how I’d react if someone threatened my family. Hell, Jeffrey Rose and Premy Sagadore did threaten my family and the man I love.
So, I killed him.
Rose, that is.
The man I love is still wandering around the hospital somewhere. He’s been by my side since telling me he loves me.
And I haven’t been able to tell him back.
I glance at Wysdom. The enormity of her secret weighed on her.
“No one else needs to know,” I squeeze her hand. “As far as I’m concerned, you protected your family.”
She returns the squeeze and wipes tears from her eyes with the other hand. “I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
I nod. “Same, woman. Same.”
Wysdom sucks in a breath as she stands. “Now, enough of this serious talk. There’s a broody warrior who’s probably stalking up to your room right now. And I believe y’all have a lot to discuss.”
“That we do,” Ryker agrees from his spot at the door.
“How’d you know he was there?” I narrow my eyes at Wysdom.
She leans and kisses me on the cheek. “He’s been there the whole time.”
Wysdom sashays out of the room with a wink, patting Ryker on the shoulder.
He’s been there the whole time.
Chapter 46
“I didn’t mention the tiny humans?”
-Ryker
Waiting for Kitten to wake up has been utter torture. It was worse than my vision quest, or maybe it just feels like that.
“Seems like you and I have a lot to talk about, Akecheta,” Cat pats her bed. “And if I know my family, Wysdom will only be able to hold them off for so long.”
I nod and perch on the edge of her bed, not wanting to jostle her. She is covered in bruises and dried blood. Her hair is a rat’s nest. And I’ve never seen someone more perfect in my life.
“Where do you want to start?” I ask.
She arches a brow at me. “How about the waiting for me forever part.”
I take a deep breath. “After the vision quest, when I spoke to my family about what I saw, they explained everything had meaning. Even the so-called sword Tezcatlipoca cut me with.”
Cat sucks in a breath. “A saber.”
