“Mmm-hmm.”
“Plus, my twin sister went and got herself sprayed with radioactive waste, so I had to make sure our DNA wouldn’t end up being too different.”
I snort-laugh. “Right.”
“Mama and Papa are worried.”
“They shouldn’t be. I’ve got meds. I’m getting better. Hospital’s releasing me soon.”
“Why don’t you sound happier about that?” Cat tilts her head at me.
My ears feel hot. Damn it.
“Ah, yes. Something else, then?”
“Aaron.”
“And?”
“He’s mad at me.”
“What did you do?”
“Who says I did something?”
Cat raises an eyebrow at me.
I raise my eyebrow right back at her.
“Okay, whatdidn’tyou do?”
Ugh. Fucking mystical twin link. “I might have held back some pertinent information from him.”
“That you’re in love with him?”
“Well…”
Cat frowns. “What else is there?”
I pick at the hospital blanket across my lap. It’s too short. You can either have your feet be warm or your arms, but never both. Why do they design those things like that? Don’t they want sick people to have a full-sized blanket? What is this, an airline?
“Cam - you’re avoiding the question. What else is there?” Cat glares at me, then her eyes widen. “And how long have you been holding back from him.”
Motherfucker.
“I’ve kept Ryan from him,” I offer.
“Why did you do that?”
“Because I need to protect him.”
“Ryan or Aaron?”
I laugh. “Ryan. Before I introduce the two of them, I need to know this is serious with Aaron. I can’t risk Ryan’s safety or his heart.”
She nods at me. “Interesting. But Aaron knows you love him, right?”
“Yes,” I whisper.
