“SweetCheeses, Mama,” I swat her hand away. “Did you bring the entire family to pick me up?”

She laughs and grabs my suitcase again, this time she’s successful. She takes off for the automatic doors, bells jingling around her waist with every step she takes. “Don’t be silly. They wouldn’t fit in the car!”

I don’t immediately follow. I turn to Carolina, who shrugs. “Don’t worry. We’re headed to Luke and Wysdom’s house. You’re getting your face full of family and then some today.”

Carolina chuckles and follows Mama outside.

And then some? What the fuck?

I take a deep breath and look skyward again. One last plea to any eternal being for help.

Deafening silence is the response.
