“How do you suggest we do that?”

“Aren’t you the one always bragging about how stupid people are with their technology?” I grin for the first time in hours and pull a card out of my purse. “How close can you get me to her if you had her 24/7 phone number?”

Tatiana plucks the card out of my hand. “Pretty dang close, Freakishly-Tall Saber Sister.”

Chapter 49

“Starlight, star bright, guide my fists of fury upon this night.”

-Carolina

Saber Security is staging in an abandoned restaurant on the outskirts of Ybor City. We - and by “we,” I mean Tatiana - were able to narrow down Dr. Crazy Pants to a three-mile radius. Problem is, Keres turned off her phone several hours ago. She could be anywhere right now.

“What are we waiting for? Let’s go kick in some doors!” Flint growls.

I smile at my brother-in-law. Celia has her hand on his bicep, whispering to him. Flint immediately calms down.

Those two went through hell and back again to be together. But they found each other. It was a second chance for both of them, and they jumped in with both feet.

I deserve a second chance.

And I need my second chance to survive being kidnapped by the world’s worst therapist.

It’s getting later in the afternoon. I worry about Rand. Is he still alive? Is she feeding him? Letting him have water?

About a half-hour ago, I left a message with Dr. Keres’ answering service that I was in crisis and needed her to call me ASAP. Tatiana is ready to go with a trace. Three teams are prepared to breach whenever we get a location. But we need to make contact first.

My phone rings, causing my pulse to race. I look at the phone.Faylor.

“Chill out, it’s just Faylor,” I hold up a hand to the room and answer the phone. “Faylor, sweetheart. Are you okay?”

“I know you’re not alone,” Dr. Keres’ voice chills me from the other side of the line. “Wherever you are, I want you to walk away from your team so we can have a nice little chat.”

I hold my hand over the phone and make eye contact with Tatiana. “I’m just going to take this call outside. Faylor wants my advice on picking out her new car.”

Tatiana taps a finger to her nose and begins clicking.

I walk outside the building. “Alright. I’m alone. Where is Faylor?”

“She’s with me and her guardian,” Keres sounds giddy.

“I need to talk to both of them before we discuss anything else,” I demand.

Keres sighs. “Fine. You first, kid.”

“Carolina?” Faylor sounds like she’s crying.

“Yes, sweetheart. It’s me. Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, a little scared, though,” Faylor sniffles.

“That’s enough,” Keres comes back on the line.

“Now, Rand.”

There are muffled sounds on the other end, then Rand’s voice comes through loud and clear. “Hey, puffin.”

“Hey, yourself, Rambling Man. This is not the surprise I thought you’d have for me.”
