Instead of bursting into song, I give the ceiling some jazz hands, then look around the room. Rand isn’t in bed, but then again, he usually gets up before me. He’s probably working on a surprise breakfast after our late-night sexcapades.

I pause. No scent of bacon or pancakes greets me.

I frown. Maybe he hasn’t started breakfast? Or, maybe he’s taking me out.

We’re supposed to check out this morning, and he mentioned going to Bellissimo later today. I hop out of bed, throw on some clothes, and race downstairs to find no one. And nothing.

No breakfast anywhere.

The coffee pot is clean. And cold.

Weird.

I slowly turn in the kitchen and notice a note on the fridge:

Puffin,

Had to leave early to put together a surprise I’m working on for you. No, I will not give you any hints, so don’t text and ask because I find myself unable to resist your beautiful face.

I want you to take your time and relax this morning. I ordered room service for you since I won’t be there to make you breakfast. Then, this afternoon, I scheduled a few spa treatments. If you’d rather have something else, let them know. I’ve already taken care of the bill. I’ll meet you at Bellissimo at seven tonight.

Yours,

Rand

P.S. I’ve ordered a car to take you back to Flamingo Cove. Let the front desk know if you need it earlier or later because of your spa treatments.

This guy.

Why he was still single was beyond me, but I wasn’t looking a gift Imaginary Fiancé in the mouth.

I’m twirling in circles with my arms out, à laThe Sound of Music, when there’s a knock at the door. I open it to find two carts of room service. I laugh out loud. How many people did Rand think would be here and eat this breakfast?

“He ordered one of everything on the menu for you,” one waiter smiles as she wheels her cart into the dining room. “He wanted to make sure you got what you preferred. Although, if you’d rather have something else, call downstairs, and the chef will make it special for you. Your fiancé was rather generous with the tip this morning.”

I stop myself from telling them Rand is rather generous in all areas, especially the bedroom.

When they leave, I take a good look at all the food and laugh again. My heart feels light and bubbly. There’s a warmth spreading through my limbs. And I couldn’t stop the smile on my face if you paid me.

I grab my phone and text him a picture of the breakfast spread and my smiling face. He doesn’t respond right away, but I don’t sweat it. He said he’s working on a big surprise for me.

I can be patient for the perfect man.

Wow. The perfect man for me.

How lucky am I right now?

Chapter 43

“What in the world is that over there?”

-Carolina

The town car zips toward Flamingo Cove on the interstate. No scenic drives today. I’m excited to get to the restaurant, see Rand, and kiss his face off.

The spa day was brilliant. There was a seaweed wrap, salt scrub, relaxation massage, manicure, pedicure, and they even did my hair in a fancy updo for tonight. Instead of heading to my parents’ house, I’m going straight to the restaurant. The driver will take my suitcase home.

We pull up to Bellissimo around 6:45. I hop out and try to tip the driver, but he won’t accept any money, assuring me, “Mr. Kestrel already took care of it.”
