“It sounds like she knows all about where she came from.”

“She does,” I nod. “I vowed to be honest with her from the start. I didn’t want her to research her mom or Jeremy and find out about the trial or malpractice lawsuits.”

“That was a smart choice.”

Her words warm my chest. I relax a little bit more.

“Thank you for sharing it with me.”

“You’re the first woman I’ve told,” I admit.

She gives me a funny look as I pull up to the valet stand at the Don CeSar Resort. I put the car in park, then pull her hand to my lips, brushing a kiss on the back.

“Alright, Imaginary Girlfriend, you ready to take this reunion by storm?”

“Imaginary Girlfriend?”

“Or, I.G. for short, if you prefer,” I wink. “I think it’s much nicer than Fake Girlfriend or Fake Boyfriend, don’t you?”

Before she can answer, the valet opens the door and helps her out. She turns to stare at me over the roof of the car, and I wink at her again.

This time her blush is slightly redder and dips down into the v-neck of her top.

Oh, yeah. This Imaginary Boyfriend is going to enjoy finding out just how far down the blush goes.

And I’ve got all weekend to do it.

Chapter 20

“Check out our wedding registry at WhatTheFuck.com.”

-Carolina

Damn my sensitive skin. Rand kissed the back of my hand, and I blushed like a teenager at homecoming. Then he gives me that wolfish grin at the valet stand. I know I get redder in the face. I have to calm down before we enter the hotel. I don’t want to run into any of my former classmates being all red-faced.

“Carolina Saber?”

Motherfucker. Too late.

The hair on the back of my neck stands up as I turn to stare into the shit-brown eyes of Ivory Lomas.

“Carolina Saber?” Ivory repeats. “It is you! I didn’t think you’d have the lady balls to show up.”

I plaster a fake smile on my face and introduce Ivory to my fake… I mean..imaginaryboyfriend.

“Ivory, this is Rand Kestrel,” I gesture between them. “My boyfriend.”

“Tsk. Tsk,” Ivory pouts. “Always a girlfriend, never a wife.”

Rand laughs and pulls me closer. “Carolina, puffin, you forgot about our engagement!”

My jaw drops. I glare at him.Oh, no, he didn’t!

Rand is shaking hands with my high school nemesis. “We got engaged on Sunday, at a big family dinner. It’s been a whirlwind ever since. Still a new situation for all of us, to be sure!”

Ivory narrows her eyes at my hand. “Where’s the ring?”

I glimpse my ring finger. Mybarering finger. Rand grabs that hand and kisses my fingers. Hot lava shoots from my hand straight into my lady garden. No stops. No waiting. The express train of lust. Right on schedule.
