A Saber sister who is currently frowning at me, with her hands on her hips in that Wonder Woman power pose.
“Ah…” I scrub my hand over my freshly cut hair.
“Nice haircut,” Carolina squints. “Are you ready to calm the hell down and go to lunch? I’m hungry.”
I’m hungry too!Dick offers from my pants.
Hungry. That must be it. I’m hungry.
That has to explain my ridiculous behavior, right?
Because the alternative is something for which I’m not ready.
Chapter 15
“The date was going so well until I crawled into the fetal position. No. Not innuendo.”
-Carolina
After the dick-measuring contest in the Saber Security lab, Rand got his shit together and escorted me to his Tesla.
“Impressive,” I walk around the car three times before getting into the passenger seat.
Rand starts up the car. “Byproduct of having a kid who’s all about saving the earth and all. She wanted us to get an electric car.”
I raise my eyebrow at that. “There are cheaper models.”
He grins. “Yeah, but they’re not nearly as cool as this one. Plus, self-driving.”
My anxiety rears its ugly head. “Uh, you’re not going to let the car drive itself, are you?”
“Not right now. I like the feel of driving myself,” Rand steers us toward downtown Flamingo Cove and Bellissimo Italian Restaurant. “Italian okay?”
“Sol’s restaurant, right?”
Rand nods.
“Sounds good to me.”
???
The hostess shows us to the table, and Rand pulls out my chair, then waits for me to sit before he takes his seat.
“Have you been here before?” he asks over his open menu.
I shake my head.
“What do you like?”
“Just about all kinds of pasta. Salads. Grilled fish,” I tick off a few things. “And chocolate cake.”
Rand grins. “You’re in luck. You can get all of that here, especially the chocolate cake. They make a flourless chocolate torte that will make you cry. It’s so good.”
My stomach does a little somersault. Not because of the chocolate cake, but because of the light in Rand’s eye when he was describing the chocolate cake. I sip some water to cool my racing pulse.
“I’ll give you a few minutes to see what looks good,” Rand announces, then looks down at his menu again.
I stare a beat longer.I see at least one thing that looks good.
