Chapter 41
"I wonder if Google Maps can help him get to The Fucking Point?”
-Flint
Rand surprised me with a video chat request. When I connected, I could see he was in full tactical gear.
“Rand?”
“Flint,” Rand nodded to the camera. “There’s been a development that I think you’re going to want to witness.”
“Okay,” I frowned.
“Can you get somewhere and connect to the tactical channel?” Rand asked.
I moved toward the guest room. “Yeah, I have my laptop here. I’ll connect in two minutes.”
“Roger that,” Rand hung up.
Celia jumped when I barreled through the door. All the drapes were closed. She was lying down on the bed.Shit. I interrupted her nap.
“Hey, Ceel,” I apologized by rubbing her shoulder. “I didn’t mean to wake you up. I just need to grab my laptop. Something’s going down back home.”
Celia sat up and rubbed her eyes. “It’s okay. I’d like to see what’s happening, too.”
I squinted my eyes at her. She seemed exhausted, which was mostly my fault, keeping her up late to love on her. Maybe we could stay an extra day, just to rest, before heading back on the road.
I’d think about that later.
I fired up the laptop then connected through our encrypted satellite uplink. When I clicked on the live tactical feed, I could see Aureus in the background.
“Is that Octavio’s neighborhood?” Celia pointed at the screen.
“Looks like it,” I answered, flicking on the coms.
“Alpha, Beta, and Charlie Teams prepare to breach,” Rand’s voice filled the room. “On my mark. Three, two, one, mark!”
We watched as Rand led Alpha Team to the front door of a familiar-looking house and knocked on the door.
“Mrs. Juravinski? This is Saber Security. We have a request to do a welfare check on you,” Rand offered in his most pleasantguy-next-doorvoice, even though he was dressed head-to-toe in badass tactical gear. One look out the window or peephole would give him away, but I had a feeling he was counting on that.
“Mrs. Juravinski?” Rand prompted again.
A gravelly voice interrupted Rand. “We’ve got a runner!”
Voice #2 called out. “She’s headed for the perimeter!”
“Charlie Team, we want her alive!” Rand ordered. His helmet camera turned away from the front door to race to the side of the house.
“Damn it! Willy bitch bit me!” Voice #1 complained.
“Target is acquired,” Voice #2 reported seconds later. “We’re going to need a medic for Ryker.”
Celia and I watched as Ryker Navarro led Echo Cruz out to the front of the house in flexicuffs.
Celia gasped. “Is that…”
“Fuck me!” I tapped the comms link. “Rand? Has she been hiding next door to her old house this whole time?”
