“You look amazing, lalelei,” Flint whispered and grabbed my hands. “You make me the happiest man in the world.”
“The feeling is mutual,” I winked.
The minister cleared her throat and asked the guests to be seated. She recited a bible verse about the greatest thing beinglove, then turned to Flint for his vows.
“Celia,” Flint began. “When we met, I knew my world would never be the same. You took my breath away with your tenacity, your fierce loyalty to family, and the way you always want to make the world a better place. You showed me that you didn’tneedme, but youwantedme in your life. I promise to cherish and honor you no matter how dirty we get. I vow to bring road snacks and extra paper towels on our life journey together. And I swear to you, in front of God and our families, that I will love you -Lalelei- all the rest of my days, and then some.”
Well, so much for my waterproof mascara. I was pretty sure it was running down my face at this point. But Carolina being the Girl Scout that she was, handed me a tissue.
“Flint,” I sniffed, then smiled up at my big lug. “Everyone sees you as this big guy, who could probably crush them with a raised eyebrow. But, I know the gentle side of you. I’ve seen how you care for your family, for those you love, and those you feel need someone on their side. You fight for the little guy. You make sure everyone is included, even when they drive you crazy with rest stops. Your heart is the thing that drew me to you from the first moment we met. Even though you’re a big ole lug, your heart is even bigger than you are. And it’s the sexiest thing on the planet. I vow to protect your heart with all of my love and affection. I promise to see you through wind and rain and tornadoes and mud. I love you, Flint. For the rest of my days, and then some.”
Tears streamed down both of our faces at this point. It was amazing we could see to exchange rings. But we did it.
Then, it became official.
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the minister winked at Flint. “You may now kiss…”
Flint didn’t need to be told twice. The big lug picked me up, tucking one of his huge arms under my knees and the other around my back. I barely had time to grab him around the neck before he kissed the stuffing out of me.
There was hooting and hollering from the audience, but I think that was just Wysdom. I have no idea. All I could see was Flint.
“How long until we can start our honeymoon?” Flint whispered in my ear.
I wiggled my eyebrows at him. “How about, right freaking now?”
“Deal,” he kissed me once more before setting me on my feet.
Flint hissed something at Rand, elbowed him in the gut, then turned to the crowd. “Cake and stuff are inside, in the air conditioning. I need a moment or twenty alone with the missus!”
With that, he threw me over his shoulder and began running toward our hotel suite. I’d like to tell you I put up a big ole massive protest.
But you can probably guess - I didn’t.
Guess I’ll be turning in that Feminist Card tomorrow morning.
Well. Maybe in the afternoon. I have some Sexy Time to attend to first.
