I reached up to the closest thing I could find on the wall, yanking it down. The curved blade of the sickle wasn’t sharp, but it would cut the rope on my wrists. Eventually.

I began rubbing the rope across the blade when I heard a noise outside.

Crap. I forgot a critical lesson in myWWWD Classes.

Step three - when you get free - run like your butt is on fire and get the heck outta Dodge!

I sat back down on the floor, hiding the sickle under my backside and grabbing the pole rope. Thank goodness for a big booty. It would hide my weapon.

“You’re awake,” Sonni glared at me. “Good.”

I tilted my head. “Why are you so angry? What did I do to you?”

“Everything! You took everything from me,” Sonni shouted.

“I never met you before coming to Dorsey,” I calmly explained, as if I dealt with lunatics all the time.

She paced the barn - out of my striking distance. “But I know you, you fucking bitch! You stole Tavi’s money, leaving nothing for my Echo!”

“Your Echo?” my eyebrows shot up to my hairline. That confirms I’ve found the elusive Allyson Flannery. Lucky me. “Are you sure about that?”

Her face got redder the more she paced. “She’s my everything. Everything I’ve done is for her! That professor wanted to trade fucks for grades, and I made sure he left the bell tower faster than he arrived by stairs. That golfingpedophilewanted to fuck her, and I made sure he couldn’t!”

“What about Octavio?”

“That fucker was the worst of all,” Allyson spat on the ground. “He cheated on Echo all the time. All. The. Time. But she said it was worth it because she was going to divorce him and take all his money.”

I laughed. I couldn’t help myself. “Oh, you poor misguided fools. That man knows how to hide his money better than the mafia.”

Allyson stopped right in front of me, her eyes narrowed. “Because you helped him hide it!”

I choked on my laughter. “Is that what you think?”

“Where did all those millions come from in your trust?”

I guffawed, tears spilling down my cheeks. “I earned it, you big bully! Something you might want to think about. And you’ll have plenty of time to think about it in prison when the cavalry gets here. Although, I might have to kick your butt before then.”

She scoffed. “No one will find you here. If you live that long, anyway. You’ll pay for what you did to my Echo.”

I belched. A cloud of garlic wafted out of my face. Gross.

Just needed her to come closer.

“Tell me, Allyson. Why are you here while Echo is basking in the sunshine?”

She glared.

“Did Echo promise to share the wealth with you if you killed Octavio?”

Her face turned red.

“Did you know all of the clues in Octavio’s murder led to you?”

Allyson balled her hands into fists. Giant fists.

“Why did y’all stab him when he was dying of poisoning?” I couldn’t help myself. I needed to know.

“He wasn’t dying fast enough,” she spat on the floor. “And he was making moves to divorce her. If he divorced her, she’d get nothing.”
