I was determinedto get that info as I stepped into work the next day. The fact that I was only working a short shift sort of put me on this timer to get it done, and it was a weird mix of anxiety and exhilaration that kept me going as I did a few appointments in the human wing to distract myself.

Working in the human wing just made me miss the Orb wing even more. It wasn't that I hated working with the usual blood testing and drawing blood that I had started with at the blood center. Now that I was assigned to the Orb wing and had met Kroven, dealing with my fellow humans just felt...boring. Still important, sure, but the sangamar being too scared to come into the blood center wasn't right, and I wanted to play any part I could in righting that wrong.

Protesters still decorated the sidewalk across the street from the blood center as I had made my way inside this afternoon, yelling incoherent threats at me as I came to do my fucking job. That was all the fuel I had needed. I was getting this contact info out of Babs if it was the last thing I did as an employee.

After I was at work for a little over an hour and a half, I had about ten minutes before I was needed for my next appointmentdrawing blood from the upcoming patient. It was my time to strike.

Finding Babs charting in the corner of the nurse's station, I decided to start prepping my own chart for my next patient as she nodded at me. That was my in.

“Thanks again for letting me come in today, Babs.” I gave her an appreciative gesture, tilting my head so our eyes locked. “I really appreciate it.”

“Thank Carlos for calling out.” She said without even looking up from her chart. Her tone was a little dismissive, but I wasn't giving up.

“Hey, that representative you said was coming to talk to the protestors on behalf of the blood center? Is that still happening?” She looked up from her scribbling, and I forged forward by adding, “I just noticed they seemed as agitated as ever. The protestors, I mean.”

Babs shook her head. “Not sure, honestly. He cancelled on me, saying he was still needed in D.C. and couldn't make the trip down here to Piper just yet.”

“That sucks,” I sighed. “The last thing we need is the protestors thinking they're gaining traction.”

“I know.” Babs growled, shaking her head in the direction of the protestors from where we were despite the fact that we couldn't see them from here. “The guy's on my shit list, trust me.”

“Any idea what his name was?” Knowing my only chance to outright ask was dwindling, I spoke as calm as I could. “A friend of mine said he'd heard about more blood centers gaining protestors than just ones here in Piper and said he knew a guy that was involved that was supposed to help.”

“Really?” Babs said, her eyes lighting up with interest. When I simply nodded, she said, “Well tell your friend that Wallace Watson needs to understand how bad this protesting is affectingour jobs, not to mention the sangamar we serve. Maybe your friend can light a fire under his ass.”

Babs stood up, shaking her head again at the subject we were discussing.

“Let's hope so.” I said, hiding my smile as she walked behind the nurses station and put her chart back to its appropriate spot. “I’ll let him know.”

Glee over being successful kept me company the entire rest of my shift. By the time my shift was over, I was practically buzzing with the urge to spew the news to Kroven over the phone. But I knew that this news would best be delivered in person. Any excuse to see my latest obsession sure as hell didn't hurt any either.

Stepping off the bus just as the sun was setting, I sauntered up the steps that led to Kroven's cobblestone abode.

Kroven answered after three knocks, and I was met with his red eyes that told me he'd fed recently and that smile that drove me crazy. He was wearing yet another tight white button-up shirt and a pair of even tighter red pants.

“Bas,” he crooned. “What a lovely surprise.”

“I bring good news.” I leaned forward, placing a hand on his chest. He sighed at the touch, making me chuckle. “Can I come in?”

“Of course.”

I stepped into the now familiar living room, glad that there was no hushed conversation with another Orb like last time. He shut the door behind us and gestured to the couch. We took our seats next to each other and I finally had to get it out of me.

“I found out who the blood center's representative is.”

Kroven's brow somersaulted, clearly not expecting to be bringing this over as my declaration. “I thought you didn't work until tomorrow?”

“I wasn't supposed to,” I assured him. “But I ended up seeing if Babs had any shifts for me. Lucky for both of us, she did.”Tilting his head in anticipation, I didn't make Kroven wait. “It's Wallace Watson.”

His head dipped to lock eyes with me, grabbing my hands from their place in my lap. Kroven's warm hands of pale slid along mine, sending a shock straight to my dick.

“You're sure it's Wallace Watson?”

“Positive.”

He stood abruptly, losing the contact our hands previously held. I watched in amusement as Kroven started pacing in front of the couch.

“This is good. Exo is in direct contact with Watson and—” He cut himself off and gave me a deep stare. “But wait, wasn't he supposed to already be in Piper to address the protestors in person?”
